This stick vac had many positive reviews, but it hasn't been great for me. It's fine for hardwood, but it does very poorly on my rugs. Even after going over certain areas repeatedly, there are many things it never picks up. I also have to regularly turn it upside down and pull out clumps of dust, fibers, etc. that clog that "mouth" of the vacuum. And when I flip the switch from "bare floors" to "carpet," it spits out clumps of dust, hair, etc. onto the rugs that I have to pick up by hand. I realize stick vacuums aren't for heavy-duty cleaning, and this is the only one I've owned, so perhaps this is on par with your typical stick vacuum. And maybe the types of rugs I have just aren't a good fit for this vacuum, but I wouldn't purchase it again or recommend it to anyone else. I'm looking to replace it with something that can do floors and rugs equally well.

I was looking for a good stick vacuum with strong pick up, good edging, and easy to use for a quick pick up and to get in corners/edges. I did my research, and all the ratings and review boards gave this vac the top spot. I went through and read some of the reviews here on Amazon. So I ran down to Walmart thinking I'd look it over in person and then do my best price shopping. I couldn't find it in my area. I can tell you Walmart, K Mart, Sears, Lowes, and Home Depot did not carry this product. That should have been a clue for me, because if it is so great and popular why can't I find it? So I looked at other products and none made any better impression. So I found the best price at Amazon for this Hoover and purchased it.

So here is the result of my test drive vacuuming my tile floor and my oriental rug:

1. I thought I read in the description and in a couple of reviews that it came with a hose attached but it does not. That was one of the selling points for me, and I don't know if I read something wrong and/or the 'with Power Nozzle' in the title made me think it had an attachment.

2. The floor to carpet button will not stay on floor setting. That is annoying.

3. The wheels are stiff and inset and the bottom is basically flush to the floor, and it doesn't roll very well-basically its like its stuck to the floor or something. You have to use a little effort to push it even over a smooth flat tile. I wouldn't recommend this for an older person or someone with wrist or shoulder problems.

4. The suction was pretty darn good including the edge, on the tile and that is one of two reasons I gave it 3 stars. However anything raised is not going to pick up because the wheels are so inset -the bottom is flush to the floor- it will just push debris around. I threw a couple of Smarties candy, pine needles, and a couple of leaves on the floor to see what it could do. It picked up one of the pine needles. The oriental rug, not good, it took me three passes to vacuum it to my satisfaction, and with the extra effort needed due to the fact that it does not move fluidly, well forget that, I'll have to break out the big vac for even a quick pick up.

5. Standing upright it seems strangely wobbly. This is due to the swivel ability of the vac when you lay it prone to vacuum under stuff-it swivels/rotations for extra mobility which it nice and the second reason it got the 3rd star from me.

6. The cord is a pretty decent length.

7. It fills up fast but what stick doesn't?


So in all I kind of found it a pain to use, therefore a waste of my money, except it is lighter weight and more maneuverable in corners than my regular vacuum.

I bought this vacuum in July, 2008. I wanted something light weight, bagless and works on both hardwood floor and carpet. I have hardwood floor for the whole house with area rugs in every room. I noticed the vacuum would be overheat and stopped working after 10 minutes of carpet vacuuming. It lasted longer with hardwood floor. I think it's the power nozzle for carpet cleaning that is easily over heated. I don't mind the engine shuts off by itself because I don't want the vacuum burned. Anyway, it's broken couple days ago by the neck between the suction head and the dust container. I am very disappointed and will not recommend it to anyone. I am buying a Bissell 82H1 which cost a bit more. I hope it will last longer.

I am really pleased with the Hoover S2220 Flair Stick Vacuum. It has enough enough power to pick up after my 16 month's mess, plus my dog's hair. It does a decent job on throw rugs, small carpets and I love the flexability of moving from hardwood to rug.

I've only used it 5 times or so, but its great on both hardwood floor and carpet.
I'm lazy, and I don't enjoy vacuuming, but this product makes me want to at least think about it.

I purchased this as a replacement to the similar Hoover non-powered nozzle model. The power nozzle of this model is, from what I can tell the only difference between the two models and is a slight improvement. I find this vacuum is perfect for use on hard floors with room rugs and the power nozzel has come in handy for quick cleaning of carpeted stairs.

It was a bit tricky to attach the power nozzle to the vacuum out of the box and I fear that becuase both vacuums have the same cup filter which tends to wear out if you are diligent in cleaning it as I am. All in all, I would still recommend this product. It is a great vacuum at a great price.
