I'm a reasonably avid photography fan - I have a Nikon D40 and a copy of Photoshop.....so I'm dangerous.
I always wanted to know how they did all those wonderful things in Photoshop. All i ever seemed to be able to do in it was change colors and levels.......any attempt at editing looked clumsy. Layers..what are they!?!
This book rocks. It presents everything in the form of "recipes". If you have a particular task you're trying to do, you jump in to that "recipe". That's not to say you can't read it like a book - that's what I did. In that way it's a bit disjointed, but you get to see the wide palette of tools you can use.
The only "downside" is Scott's approach to writing. It's a bit light hearted and irreverent with jokes of varying degree. Personally, I don't mind them and enjoyed the better ones, but I know many dislike it (some of the "photo" crowd are a bit serious!)
Highly recommended - just make sure you match the book version to the version of Photoshop you have, otherwise you may not get coverage of tools you have (or alternatively you cover tools that you don't have).

This book will save you countless hours of fruitless experimentation in Photoshop. I use Scott's shortcuts and techniques EVERY day.

If you love photography and love to present a flattering or stunning photo to your friends and family, this is the book for you. I love working in Adobe CS and I have worked in it for a few years. Still, this book brought out a lot of quick, easy and perfectly workable tips for perfecting your digital photographs.
I actually had checked it out from the library and determined I had to buy a copy.
Teaches you how to properly set your colors for photo print or publication depending on the paper you will use. Shows you how to gently remove wrinkles, blemishes, love handles and correct smiles.
It also shows you how to add artistic flare to your photos.
Very easy to follow. Quick and to the point.

This book, like many photoshop books, is just the same thing over and over. How to retouch photos, how to use layers to change the intensity of an image. It's a good book if it is your first photoshop book and you're looking to learn the basics, but it is nothing beyond basic.

Good easy to understand instructions. Full color pictures help.
I got this b/c I am still pretty new to photoshop and it's a tough program to get a handle on b/c of the terminology. This booked helped me get thru the basics and even had a few advanced tips. It's easy to read and very well written (Kelby is pretty funny!) I would reccomend this to anyone just starting out in photoshop.
