I bought this for a student. He has commented that it is helpful to him, as there are many expressions in it with which he is unfamiliar. The skits are humorous, but some of the situations seem a bit absurd or the examples are not quite fitting.

We have used this book as a text in a classroom setting for our Advanced ESL classes for the past two years, and the students love it. All of my students are adult learners, and they are keen to learn the idioms that baffle them at work. The parents in the class with children at home tell me that their kids play the CD in the car and practice pronunciation with them. We do one lesson and test each week, discuss the meaning (and sometimes origin) of the idioms and then we read a story from a national media outlet. It fills ninety minutes very effectively. Highly recommend.
I live in Venezuela, I speak spanish as native language. I'm learning English by myself as a second language. This book and CD audio are very good, in it you will find dialogues and dayly expressions that can help you if you are not an expert. I can write in English so so, but my hear is not trainned to listen english conversation and dialogues. If you want to improve your English vocabulary and train your hear, it is for you. The seller was on time and the package fine. I'm very glad.
Speak English Like an American has a great format. You learn hundreds of American English idioms and phrases through a story. You have the option of listening along on a CD too.

I was really dissapointed with this book. It is not worth the money. All it does in this book, so called "Speak like an American" is to provide some american english slang.
