Well, I am new to turn based strategy games so it is alot different than what I am used to. I read the manual that came with the game and read alot of reviews, most people say to just play the game and you will learn as you go. This is very true in my case. I started on the easiest level and played for hours only to have the whole world declare war on me and crush my civilization. The more I play the better I get at managing resources, allocating more money to science so I can research and advance faster and building up an army without overspending on my budget per turn.
It is a fun game with alot of different civilizations to play with and many different routes to take in research to get where you want to be technologically. I would recommend trying this game but be warned, it takes many, many hours of your time just to play on the default settings which I believe is 500 turns before the game ends.

I started playing Civilization 3 about when it first came out and then upgraded to the Conquests expansion some time later. From the first it was a very addicting game, though I did always find myself wanting a better and more tactical combat experience - this did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the game, however. With the separate releases I found that the game would begin to work more and more slowly as I progressed though a game, this problem seems to have been addressed in the "Complete Edition", however as even once the whole map has been settled I have noticed no slowing down whatsoever, and the game moves just as quickly as it did at game-start.
"Game is fun but the copy protection renders it unplayable"

After getting addicted to Civilization Revolution on my iPhone, I decided to get the real Civ for my netbook. The price was right for Civ3 and it required less horsepower than Civ4, so I went for it. I had to use an external CD/DVDROM drive for my Asus to install it under WinXP.
At first, all was great because I still had the CD-ROM drive attached. But then when I removed it to go for a trip, Civ3 suddenly stopped working. Turns out you need the original disk installed in your CD/DVD-ROM drive in order for the game to work.
This makes Civ3 utterly useless for the netbook crowd since our drives aren't built in and many of us don't carry it along. Bummer.
Great game. Lousy copy protection.

this game is very god but not for everyone its very complex and hard for some to understand this game wasn't meant to please everyone
i love the campaigns in it( i bought this expansion 2 months ago and i have only beaten one campaign on the easiest level so its will keep you busy)
i love the options like to be peaceful or be like me build nukes and bomb everyone
also terrain actually mean something hills give advantage to the defenders and the environment around you can change like roads, mines, planting trees, cutting forests down, draining marshes, and farming the land so its cool
I bought civ 4 i returned it same day a bought another game because it lacked way too much
every time you play the gameplay is always different
plus you can make a map or scenario by scratch with the easy to use map editor
i think this game is good for people who like strategy and also you can pick up a game and understand it pretty easily( also firaxis is infamous for coming up with expansion packs all the time this game is complete no surprise expansion packs)

This is a wonderful game. The graphics could be a bit better but hey, its from 05. The storyline is wonderful but very simple. You collect the most resources and try to defeat the other team. And in this version, you can go online and battle other people. All in all, an amazing game.
