| I bought the Emjoi AP-9L Epi Slim Cosmetic Hair Remover a few months and only recently did I get up enough nerve to actually try it. When you first turn the epilator on, it looks and sounds intimidating. Also, that it's going to be very painful. Well, it's not painful, at least not for me anyway. Though, some might disagree. Yes at times you may feel slight discomfort, but nothing excruciating and like other hair removal methods don't involve some pain. Anyway, I tried it and wasn't satisfied with the job. It does work (at least for me) removing hair from the hands and fingers. It didn't work well at all for facial hair, which is why I bought the darn thing. It seemed to cut rather then pull the hairs out by the root and if I want to cut it, I'll just use a regular trimmer. It's really a shame that it didn't work because it is a great idea, but it just doesn't do what it's suppose to do. I would recommend it for like your hands and toes and fingers, but use something else for the face. I'm giving two stars because I was pleased with what it did work for. I do believe with some improvements, it could be the best thing since slice bread. Well, at least for unwanted hair. |

| I have used this often, and it is true some tugging & pain is involved, but so much faster than tweezing, plus at my age, seeing the hairs is getting to be a real bother. I had to shorten my fine upper lip hair the first time I used it, as they were a bit long. Upper lip usage is the most painful, but I do like the no fuzz look. I've noticed my skin is very smooth & soft. Maybe this helps the circulation? I am 49, & impressed with this little item. I am ordering another one today to keep in my camper, so I never forget to have one on hand. I suggest using good quality batteries for longer battery life. If you are sensitive to pain, you could try numbing your upper lip area with ice. I even tried orajel, which didn't last too long. |

"I'm a first time epilator and it's pretty good.." | 2008-08-06 |

When I received the emjoi epilator, I really underestimated the amount of pain I was going to be in for the first time around. I had never waxed or epilated before and OMG did it hurt. Luckily, I wanted my $15 worth of this product so I kept using it and it does get better!! A lot better!! I bought this tiny one to see if I could handle epilating on my legs before I put money into a larger more expensive model, and although it removes the hair nicely and I appear to be hairless, I'm not as smooth as a clean shave:(. This is the reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5.
I also wanted to use this on my bikini line but I'm just not that brave right now. I'm planning on getting waxed first to remove the majority of hair and then using the epilator for cleanup so it won't be so intense.
Anyway long story short, THE PAIN DOES GO AWAY!!!! and your hair doesn't grow back as fast and I've only been using it a month :)
I think it says a lot about the effectiveness of this little guy that I'm now willing to spend around $80 on a bigger verson for my legs. But for smaller areas I would highly recomend it. Also, I used it on my arms once, and it did |

| I cannot be without this item now that I have used it for awhile.....it works awesome and does not hurt at all. It makes it easy to get hairs that you didn't know were there as well......which is pretty scary but that's what I like about it....never leave home without it! |

"not for me...caused too much irritation" | 2008-07-26 |

| Well, I was very excited to receive this, but it didn't work as hoped for me. I purchased it for use in the bikini and under arm area. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to achieve results in the under arm area. I felt like I couldn't get the skin taught enough. I lacked the correct angle and needed more hands I think. As for the bikini area, it worked ok, but left me too irritated. I followed the instructions and exfoliated, but I was still left w/ some ingrown hairs. I had this problem before w/ waxing, so I think I am just not a good candidate for this kind of hair removal. |

| I got this epilator to try something new for my underarms. Shaving was getting aggravating with my insanely thick hair, and waxing wasn't working for me. I tried this epilator the second the box hit my door step. I'm not going to lie.. it's painful.. and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, and there was some slight bleeding. But it works! I could only do seperate areas for just a few seconds, and although it didn't pick up every hair, my underarms look much better than before. I can see myself using this for years to come. I assume it will get less painful and the hair will grow slower and thinner. The problems I have with it: It's loud. Not like a soft little buzz.. No. It's a very frightening noise. My roommates probably think I'm using a mini chainsaw. It's pretty fun watching the hairs get plucked up and brushing them off the epilator makes you realize the progress. It works.. and it didn't cost an arm and a leg! I'm glad I bought it. |

I've never written a review nor have I ever used an epilator before but I felt compelled to write this one. IMO, I think the key to epilating is to exfoliate first. I started a beauty regime since I am now 1 year away from the big 50!
I started by buying a Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser, Pink to clean my face daily which also exfoliates. Then I started using the Emjoi Sin Dolar epilator (Walmart or Target) to use on my face. Since exfoliating for about a week before I used this it worked wonderfully. I then bought the Emjoi EpiSlim to do the smaller parts of my face and upper lip. To my surprise it got hairs off that the bigger one missed! It did a wonderful job on my upper lip and it did not really "hurt". IMO it felt just like tweezing, just more than one hair at a time.
I do think that the exfoliating helped with the "pain" and also in stopping the ingrown hairs and bumps that some people have experienced. I did use the wave to exfoliate and clean before I epilated, since it is gentle on my face and can be used daily. The key is to use a very light touch with the epilator and move in very small slooooowww circles around your face. This is not a quick process like shaving, this takes way more time but the results are worth it. I think I did it a little longer than most because to me it felt like a facial massage. The hair on my face is very much like peach fuzz though so this may be why it did not hurt me. I used a large table top mirror that has a magnifying mirror on one side and a plain mirror on the other and light up. I put on a homemade moisturizer when I was finished as I do nightly for the past week.
I am writing this the day after this process and my face did not break out nor do I have ingrown hairs, the hair is gone; my face is not red but is soft and smooth. For me this was a great experience and entrance into the world of epilating. I am looking into getting a better one for my legs and arms. I am getting ready to use the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator, The Anti Aging Power Treatment Kit for some deep down cleaning.
