I purchased this machine because I wanted to work with heavy material. I used this machine to make a leather purse. After finding the leather needles I didn't have any problem sewing the leather. The only thing I had a little problem with was winding the bobbin with upholstry thread. It's easy to use and has all the stitches I was looking for. So far I'm very happy with it.

I purchased my Euro Pro years ago and it works beautifully. I've never had a problem with the tension. Never had a problem with going from one type of fabric to another. IT IS A GREAT MACHINE!! I recently gave mine away to a dear friend who crafts as part of her income. She was so frustrated with her Singer (I hate Singer and Brother machines btw). She tried the Europro and LOVED it!!! I'm now looking to get another EuroPro. It's a wonderful machine. Don't know where the bad review came from but like any type of equipment or electronic device, there's always the chance that you may get the one product that doesn't work. Don't let that stop you from giving this baby a shot.
BTW I'm not a beginner. I've owned Singers and Brothers and hated them.
I bought this sewing machine five years ago for my son and his wife. It is a workhorse. So far it has sewed many denim layers, twill, etc. Mostly mending on men's slacks and shorts, as well as other routine mending and sewing jobs. It's a lot of hard multi-layer work. Very easy to maintain, and of course oiling and cleaning the bobbin area is essential as it is to all machines. Oil where the manual says to oil. Seems these are very toughly built, but the finishing is not as finely turned as more expensive machines like the Vikings, Janomes, Kenmores, etc. I give it only 4 stars due to the rep of Euro-Pro on service.
The problem people have with the Euro-Pros is service - the reputation for repair and service is horrendous. However, I wouldn't even try for warranty service on this machine unless it is worthless out of the box. It is a simple mechanical machine that any sewing tech should be able to diagnose and fix. It has the same parts as the rest of the mechanical machines, and a vertical bobbin setup. At least the Euro-Pro has more metal than the usual cheapie sewing machine you'll find at WALMART by brands who aren't what they used to be.
I have been sewing on this machine regulary for a few years now. It has been an absolute dream. It sews well through cotton, denim, wool felt, and even thick vinyl, without complaint. Make sure to clean the bobbin case periodically, and drop a bit of oil when it needs it, and you will have no problems. It fits all standard bobbins and needles, so shopping for spare parts is super-easy. I love my Euro-Pro!

I love this sewing machine. It sews very smoothly and easily through a number of fabrics. I'm a casual sewer who makes things like curtains, halloween costumes for my kids, etc., along with repairing clothing. A great machine for the casual sewer.
