"I used to love BOSE till I bought the 3-2-1"

The sound is really good. It's definately BOSE quality in that department. The only problem is, if it won't play your DVD's or music then there's nothing to hear anyways. We've had all the same problems with the DVD player not reading discs, turning off partway through and last night we watched a movie and this morning the system won't even turn on. We've had this one repaired once and now it's broken again. Definitely too high of a price for something that's not going to work. If you're set on getting a BOSE system, I would get one just for the speakers and then get a seperate DVD player and CD player to actually run your media out of. We will be replacing our system with something else and it would take a lot to convince us to buy a BOSE again.

I believe that these speakers are INCREDIBLE. I have this setup in my living room. My living room isn't huge, but it's not small either. The speakers fill the room with a solid and very clear sound. The highs and mids are GREAT and the lows are especially strong. It is AMAZING how much sound comes out of a system so small. You can hear EVERY detail from any movie you are watching from a pen drop, to any type of explosion. In my opinion, for the price and size, there is no better setup than the Bose 3-2-1 system.
I am not an audiophile / videophile so this will not be a technical review. All I can say about this is if you want a simple and clean home theater system and you don't already own a bunch of components this is a good route to take.
This was chosen on the basis of simplicity. One remote, one component, three speakers, one speaker cable, one power cord. It doesn't get any easier and considering how simple it is: it looks and sounds great for our requirements which were that it had to produce a good image for our projector (1080p) and it had to sound good. Sounding good for us means that when we watch movies the dialogue sounds good and the effects have a decent left to right going on.
That's it. And that's what we got and I'm happy with it. I'm not a huge Bose fan, but I'm not a hater either.
I can't give it 5 stars because I'm disappointed that the speaker cable was so short. If you have a room bigger than 10x10 or if you use a projector you will need to order a special proprietary cable. They are available up to 40 feet and the cost at the moment for the 40 FT cable was $19.99.
We also bought the speaker stands to keep the cables nice and neat and to avoid mounting the speakers to the wall since we are renting. The stands were $100 - ouch.

I have had a 3-2-1 system for several years and yes, it isn't a 5.1 system (how could it be - physics doesn't work like that). It is a simple 2 speaker system that does clever phasing to trick you into thinking it's something else. You buy this because: 1. It is simple; 2. It sounds quite nice; 3. It looks good; 4. Your house isn't cluttered with wires and speakers; 5. You aren't 21 and are obsessed with sound quality over every other consideration; 6. Bose will look after you in the years ahead if it goes wrong. Example: I bought my system probably 5 years ago. 2 years later we had a lightning strike and even with an expensive (= Monster) power surge adaptor the poor system would turn on but wouldn't output any sound. I send the sub-woofer back and for $48 (I think) they repair and send it back. But the system still doesn't work. I forget about it and leave it in a box.
This week (3 years later), I have another reason to call Bose (headphone repair) and mention this. They say, send everything back and we will repair / replace it - and wait - free of charge.
So moral of the story is, you might pay more for Bose, but they will treat you much better than Sony / Yamaha / etc / Big Box Store.
What do they say - have a great customer experience and you tell all your friends....
Bose doesn't have the best sound quality (its good, but not the best), but as a customer I am very happy. I just wish Apple would learn from them (but thats another story).
"DISAPPOINTING..."

I had a Bose Lifestyle System and was very happy with the quality and depth of the sound. I played Cd's, DVD's, and my TV through it and it was impressive especially with DVD's and the fact it was not surround sound. Bought the Bose 321 system and was disappointed.... The sound is thin and frail, no depth. This system just does not have the impact and sound I was hearing from my Lifestyle System. It is not worth the money because you can buy other systems at half the price that have a better overall sound... I have no reliability issues with the unit, just disappointed in the sound. If you are listening to less expensive units that have a boomy muddy bass then this will be a step up but if you are looking for depth of sound and great sound separation from acoustic type music this is not the system you want... The DVD's sound loud and clear , very little difference than playing through the Lifestyle system and don't have that wow impact I was hoping for.... The Bass unit is not impressive... JUST DISAPPOINTED!!!
