I love this book! It has saved me time and again when I needed to bring dessert to some event, and I was out of ideas. Doctoring cake mixes improves the taste and texture of the finished treat, sometimes dramatically. The book shows you that this can be done without crazy ingredients or impossible techniques.

I LOVE this book! Everything I've made from the CMD is delicious and defies a cake mix stereotype. It's exactly what a working person needs. Last night I came home from work after 9:00 p.m., baked Susan's Lemon cake from "scratch" and was done and finished in time for the 11 o'clock news, and that included making the frosting glaze. My friends loved it so much that several asked for the recipe! I had to confess that it had started life as a yellow cake mix. Where I avoided cake mixes before, I now keep a stock of "bases" so that I can create something delicious when I have to.

Wonderful ways to improve a cake mix, and use mixes as a base for other goodies such as bars and cookies. have given this book to several friends and their daughters as they begin life on their own - baking from scratch is something they have never done, but these recipies improve cake mixes and gives them the "wow" factor. Even my 21 year old son can follow the directions and produce something delicious and impressive, for friends or to take to a party. Highly recommended for busy or new bakers.

I absolutely love this book. I think the cakes taste better than if you made them from scratch with plain flour and other ingredients. Using a box cake as the base gives the cake a much better flavor. My FAVORITE recipe is her carrot cake. I switched from my original recipe to this one and my family loves it. I love to give this book at wedding showers, too.
