I recently purchased this item in "used," condition off Amazon.com, and I am very pleased with my purchase.

The device itself is very appealing. It is a bit bulky, but that's because of it's large, crisp LCD display. It also has a built in speaker that works very well, I can hear it loud and clear wherever I go. Oh, and it has an earphone jack that makes it great for listening to music, media, or whatever.

It uses Windows Mobile, which is very to use. The windows media player works well.... for playing music. I found the video player to be not-so-good, as it skips frequently when playing video files. I still like the media player however, and use that program the most.

It also has active sync, outlook express, and all of the other standard programs, but not much extra. I like the digital keypad and letter recognition software, it works great when writing notes or filling out your planner.

I believe this device has Wifi, but it takes a solid effort to get it working. I heard there are SD Wifi cards available, and that might be the best bet for easy internet access.

And the battery life is great, I have no complaints about it.

Overall, this is a great working item. I will emphasize, however, that this device is best suited as a media player and data storage device. Its much too fragile to just carry around. I would reccommend a cheaper digital organizer if that is all you will use it for.

Good luck with your shopping.

I purchased my IPaq RX3115 more than 2 1/2 years ago, and it has been well worth the money I paid for it ($200 on clearance! I didn't know what a good deal I was getting).
I had lost a lot of paper planners and notepads, mainly because they were boring and I didn't care about them. It took some convincing, but my wife finally gave in to my claim that I wouldn't lose a planner that was actually fun to have with me. She thought it was just an expensive toy, but it has proven to be extremely versatile and worth the expense.

Here are some things I have managed to use my IPaq for:
* Wireless web surfing (more or less - some javascript and Flash pages have major issues).
* E-mail - Gmail works well if you bookmark a link to the "html" version of the page instead of the default "mobile" version.
* MP3 playing
* Pocket Quicken - money management
* Python programming - I have version 2.4 installed, but 2.5 is available.
* Podcast downloading via wireless internet (I wrote my own Python podcast reciever, but there are now others available).
* Blog reading - Google Reader mobile works great
* Bible software
* Games
* Skype (It didn't work very well, but might be useful in an emergency)
* Listpro - I keep my schedule as a to-do list
* Voice recording
* Bluetooth file transfers
* Notetaking in Pocket Word (I have a portable keyboard)
* Drawing (there's a pretty nifty little paint program included in the Windows directory).
* FTP and SSH (for web development)
* Document reading using Acrobat Reader
* Printing to an HP Laserjet printer

Suggestions:
* With a little help from Google, you can find out how to fix the start-up screen so that it looks like a normal Today screen.
* Download a program called "Magic Button" to be able easily switch programs and actually close programs (instead of minimizing them).
* You will also want to install a program called Total Commander. It includes a much better file explorer, a notepad text editor program, and the ability to work with ZIP files.
* Make sure to use the HP Backup software, as the device will at some point inevitably crash. Mine has gone totally dead three times. Removing and reinstalling the battery and then charging on the wall charger a full day, plus a hard reset and then a restore from backup file, revived it all three times.
* Also, be sure to purchase an aluminum case for it. I've heard of the screens breaking, but mine has been fine.
* If the memory keeps running out on you, be sure to clear the Internet Explorer cache.
* Make sure to install all large programs to your storage card instead of main memory. Save main memory for programs you always need on hand, no matter what card is in the slot.

My Ipaq has been reliable, useful, and fun. I love that I can program Python on it, so that if I can't find a program that does what I want, I can probably just write it. In its case it is sturdy. I can access the internet anywhere I can get a wireless signal. And, it's almost three years old, now--who would have thought! When my HP RX3115 finally bites the dust, I intend to buy another RX3115.

My ipaq rx 3115 is just a total package for me as a medical student,it has all i need, the most important is the wiress features which enable me to connect even during rounds in the hospital. I bought a 2GB SD card to expand the volume. I can access my laptop using the ipaq mobile media and copy files from it isnt that cool? it is simply a tight fit.

Everything has some probs this model runs on windows 2003 se software which is kind of old and limited packages. with wi-fi the battery drains alittle fast

Received this gem 12/04. After accidently being shut in door and destroying internal screen, I broke down and bought a new refurbished same model. This has been the best investment so far. I use it for everything except the Bluetooth, every day, and have not been disappointed yet.

It went through the washer about a month ago, and after drying out for about 2 weeks, is up and running like new! Truly a good little machine and would highly recommend it!

I got it 2 years ago and I am still using it and is working perfectly, I bet right now this model is old, so if you are planning to buy a pocket pc, get the new ipaq model, I installed a japanese dictionary with more terms than any book, also I can play age of empires when I am bored, and with the 1 GB memory I got, I also installed the wikipedia for pocket and now I need a 2 GB memory to get the new wikipedia, and of course I can use it as an mp3 player, I really dont know why people trash his money in those ipods, I am just waiting for a new model with phone to buy it, also the pocket had saved my life for many times when I need to use internet and I am in other country , there is always a place to find wifi hotspots and use the msn to get info or help from my friends

5 Star Rating  "Great fast pocket pc"2007-01-06

Mini review: Great pocket pc, fast enough to smoothly play all of your videos and music, can also run games lag free. good for surfing the web, better than a I pod as with a good SD card, you can save any audio format and any video format and play it with no problem. (more support than any mp3 player and best of all, no DRM)

______________
Benchmark:

Read/Write speed:
The read and write speed is good enough to quickly transfer your music and videos to the pocket pc. I ran a full benchmark of the rx3115's transfer abilities. To allow everest to benchmark the pocket pc, i had to install softick card export which makes the pocket pc plug and play (removing the need for active sync)[...]

The rx3115 has a average speed of 523KB/s (can transfer an mp3 song in under 7 seconds)
(Has 60.64 MB (including ipaq file store storage)user available memory)
If you get a change, also order at least a 1GB SD card (you can get one from amazon for under $10)
____________
Wifi benchmark:

Speed test:
for the speed test, i have no screen shot because the pocket pc doesn't have that feature but I will post the results

For download speed, I got 218.8KB/s
For upload speed, I got 215.4KB/s

I was unable to test the full range of the wifi but i was able to connect to my actiontec router from over 200 feet away (range test from router in my bedroom and me walking outside then testing distance using google earth)
_______________
Battery life benchmark:
With normal usage and backlight on max, I get over 5 hours battery life (listening to music and playing with pocket word)

With max backlight and wifi enabled (downloading a large 700MB video) I get about 2.3Hours battery life (wifi uses a lot of power when downloading but uses very little with normal web surfing as it only drains power when you are loading data from the web)

With max back light and watching a movie, I got really good battery life, I was able to watch a 2 and a half hour movie using "the core media player" and still have about 60% battery life remaining

The battery charges fast (didn't measure the time but it seems to be around
1 hour or less)
_______________
Other info:
The Pocket overclocks well but remember while overclocked, the pocket pc will not sync with USB until you go to the normal 300MHz clock speed.

Unlike older pocket pc, this pocket pc has very accurate picture because instead of cold cathode based backlight which use a lot of power, this pocket pc uses LED backlights (6 LEDs located at the bottom of the screen),
the LEDs give pure white light so there is no blue tint on the screen.

When you get this pocket pc, you must download the ROM update from HP (it fixes the IE problem where internet explorer will crash when loading the banner ads on yahoo.com)

PS the touch screen of the pocket pc works by having sensors under a conductive layer when it touches the bottom layer, it registers a tap those layers are very close together and are separated by a small pocket of air (if you apply pressure to the entire screen, you will collapse the pocket and the touch screen will fail and not respond to taps. You can prevent this by getting the hard case so when it is in your pocket, pressure will not be applied to the screen)

You may also want the charging dock for the rx3115 it is cheap and better than using the charging cable (the cable is shaped in a way that causes the pocket pc to be lifted up on one end, this is bad because if you mistakenly push hard on the top of the pocket pc, you will break the sync port.

The pocket pc also has a sound recorder (records at up to 44,100Hz 16 Bit audio, Stereo @ 172KB/s). The mic is good and can pick up even the smallest sounds (good for recording songs from the radio and allowing a program called tunatic to tell you the name and artist of the song by analyzing the sound)

The built in speaker is located behind the 5 way directional pad.
The sound quality of it is good but you will still headphones for better quality (speaker is unable to play sounds under 100Hz that means very weak bass. with headphones, it will sound better than many mp3 players)

It also has one of the best build in universal remotes I have ever used.
____________
Conclusion:
The pocket pc is great for business and entertainment use.
It is fast enough to handle all of your entertainment needs.
More than enough features to keep you happy
