Here is what people are saying about the M-Audio Keystation 88ES Midi Controller
5 Star Rating  "One of the best controllers"2009-10-14

I am using this item many years ago and I didn't find any problems or troubles with it, and I purchased this one because I sold my old one to friend and needed a new keyboard.

5 Star Rating  "The Best Keyboard for your buck!"2009-10-01

This keyboard works out of the box with Vista x64 bit, I did not install any drivers and it worked perfectly with Native Instruments Piano on x64 bit platform.

I formerly owned M-Audio 49es for about two years and compared to this keyboard, it is completely different! This keyboard is semi-weighed and has a a very nice repelling action to the keys that resembles an actual keyboard. The keys also feel heavier and a lot more authentic than the 49es. When I strike the keys hard as I play, I dont feel like I'm bending the plastic the way I do with the 49es. It rocks and it's only 200. Sadly, I bought the 49es for around $120.

If you are learning to play the piano, buy this midi keyboard; if you are serious and passionate and willing to spend all the time in the world to learn piano, buy this instrument; if you are looking for an upgrade to your less than 88es BUY THIS KEYBOARD! I also want to note that there is a 88es hammeraction keyboard for about twice the (cost which i think is worth it) those who want to even better quality. This is a full sized keyboard and you will be able to play practically all the songs you want. Don't settle for less!!

4 Star Rating  "More then I expected"2009-09-18

I am what you would call a 'piano snob'. I never, ever play anything but real instruments (electric keyboards have always felt and sounded completely ridiculous to me). Recently, however, I found myself without a piano (living in an apartment too small for one). I decided to find the cheapest 88 key keyboard I could find because I refused to invest any real money in what I consider to be very poor substitutes for the real thing.

I chose the Keystation 88es because it was the cheapest thing I could find.

Knowing it wasn't a proper keyboard but a midi controller I wasn't expecting much. I imagined myself playing with the sound off just to keep my fingers limber and used to the motion and all that.

What I got was much more then I expected. Initially I used the software that came with the Keystation and this was a frustrating experience at best. While the keys felt acceptable (semi-weighted but feels so much better then other keyboards of this price feel), the sound was completely terrible. The lower register was soft, soft and the higher register was abnormally loud. The only sound choices (electric piano) were poor.

I decided to invest in different software and suddenly I went from mildly disappointed in my product to completely pleased.

Don't make the mistake I did and blame poor sound on the keystation itself! The keystation is a controller and is not the source of bad sound! With different software then what came with the product I now have an instrument in the Keystation that I can truly enjoy in the absence of my piano!

The end of my story is if you're willing to invest in the keyboard itself as well as GOOD software to create a more pleasing piano sound then this is a good buy!

5 Star Rating  "Great Keyboard"2009-07-05

I've been playing piano now for quite over a decade. I enjoy making music on my computer and having this piano has made it even more fun. For me, as a hobbyist piano player, this piano is great. The keys are semi weight, but that doesn't really bother me. The piano is very compatible with my computer, running Windows XP 32-bit and also my laptop Windows XP 64-bit. Just plug it in and automatically it's installed. Durability seems like it will last a long time. Nothing bothers me about the piano.

Overall, great keyboard. I don't do live gigs or anything, but I could see this piano be easily set up for performances. But like you hobbyists out there, I would recommend this piano to you.

2 Star Rating  "NO 64 BIT SUPPORT"2009-06-19
- Reviewed By User: A5R7W7K6CP9RT
I was extremely excited when the keyboard came in... until I ran into audio software problems. I run windows xp 64-bit and although windows itself can recognize the device as a "usb audio device" my audio production software cannot recognize it. (Reason, Cubase)

Checked the M-audio website for any updates, drivers, and etc but they currently do not support 64bit at all, though their website claims that for vista 64 bit users, plug and play should be sufficient. After googling around for a couple hours, it became evident that based on the general response from other 64-bit users, M-Audio is absent from supporting systems that want to utilize more than 2+ gb of RAM.

Unfortunately, I will have to return this product.

64 bit USERS BEWARE!!!!

I have a smaller midi keyboard but wanted one with 88 keys. This one fit my needs and more. I like the feel of the weighted keys, and all of the settings that come with it are a bonus. It has 5 piano settings, one clav setting, and an organ setting. Granted, they aren't what you would find on a $1000.00 plus keyboard, but the sound from them is more than adequate. The first two piano sounds are great. I mainly wanted it to plug into my computer and play other sounds through it via software. I like the fact that it has a "modulation" wheel on the left side. That is very handy for changing the sound when I am playing organ sounds with some B3 software that I use. Overall, this is a great midi keyboard, and you couldn't ask for more from a sub - $200 product. It is very sturdy, and a little heavier than I thought it would be. I am very happy with my purchase !
