I've been an SOS fan since the 80's. I was out shopping and heard HAPPY ENDING in a store and it just absolutely BLEW ME AWAY! I bought the cd on amazon and was very pleased. I can't believe that I've read all the reviews and no one mentioned Happy Ending. It is by far the best SOS song and in my all time favorite category. At first I thought it was a vapid song about a broken relationship but it's such a life metaphor, quite existential and stunning. Caipirinha is also a song so infused with beauty that it's stupendous, I enjoyed listening to it on the beach in Calabria, Italy last year and between that song and the scenery it was like the pinnacle of fabulosity. La Source is also just fantastic. Whenever I hear SOS the imagery their music conjures in my head is amazing, so smooth, so lush and jazzy, like a European 1960's spy movie, love the Brazillian influence! They are truly amazing!

Where Our Love Grows is yet another excellent offering from the triumvirat of jazz pop. Corinne Drewery is the mellifluous vocalist and lyricist. Andy Connell is the accomplished keyboardist and melody writer. The third member of this trio is producer Paul O'Duffy who has been Swing Out Sister's long time producer (sans two of their studio albums). Although this album, like its predecessor Somewhere Deep In The Night, is another jazz-oriented pop album there are distinct differences between the two. Whereas the production on SDITN is warm but subdued, the production on WOLG has a more vibrant, crystalline and "in your face" sound. Also there are subtle, musical style differences. SDITN has a more of a late night, torch jazz style with an overall oneiric quality, typical of late night. WOLG is much more of a Bossa Nova style jazz and is more compatible with early morning listening. There are also differences in the mood of the two albums. SDITN is more wistful with its background strings and muted horns. WOLG is more sanguine with brighter horn and keyboard sounds. It is amazing how the same producer can capture two distinctly different musical moods on successive albums. And yet, on the 1999 Swing Out Sister album, Filth And Dreams, O'Duffy employed a much more "stripped down" production which was a nascent style at the time. It's hard to believe that O'Duffy produced that album as well. Kudos to such a versatile producer!

Here are some of the album highlights:

Love Won't Let You Down- The horns and vibrant keyboard sounds lend itself to the cheery mood of this lyrically positive song.

Where Our Love Grows- Again, horns and tinkling keyboards add to this scintillating mid-tempo ballad.

When The Laughter Is Over- One of the few, longing and plaintive ballads on the album. This song compares the ephemeral nature of love to a nostalgic summer of short duration.

Caipirinha- A very lilting, upbeat Bossa Nova instrumental (mostly) complete with male and female "scat" vocals.

Let The Stars Shine- My favorite track on the album. This song exudes musical brilliance! It is another breezy, mid-tempo song (it seems like Swing Out Sister prefer the mid-tempo songs these days). "Let the stars shine, light up my life." This is one of the lines from the catchy song chorus.

Where Our Love Grows is probably my fourth favorite Swing Out Sister album. Like its predecessor, this album features key vocal songs with short instrumentals provided as a musical nexus. A definite 5-star contender!

Swing out Sister has always been near and dear to my heart since thier Breakout single aptly named Breakout. If you want to unwind and want some easy listening music this is a great choice for those moments and even for small gatherings of friends. My favorite song on here is "from my window" , it has an outstanding range and showcases the lead singer's magnificent voice.

I have been an avid fan of S.O.S. since the start of their career and to me this is one of their best efforts yet. All songs have that little extra that sets them apart. This CD got a place in my CD Changer Set in my car after I received it and it never left its place. It is that good!

This is a simply gorgeous Swing Out album. It's basically a honed, fully realised, expression/summation of their art and talent so far. It is smooth and effortless but must have taken lots of time and care. It's a perfect Swing Out album as far as I'm concerned. It took me a little time to get addicted but I've recently been playing this over and over; something I really don't do that often nowadays as I listen to music in shuffle mode on my Walkman most of the time. As the album finished on my Walkman the Swingle Singers came on directly afterwards - perfect!

I realised a while back, with some surprise, because I have so many favourite bands and have listened to so much great music, that Swing Out Sister are one of my all time greats - because I have never, ever tired of listening to them. Their music cannot date. I would take a few of their albums to a desert island. I guess they would be: It's Better to Travel; Kaleidoscope World, Shapes and Patterns, Where Our Love Grows with a set of greatest tracks that are not on those albums.

This is a class act. Buy this album. Relax. Chill Out.
