My daughter has an IEP in school and this product was recommended by her teacher. She can use it while reading books when I am not around. If she types in the word she can't read then it will speak it back to her and she will have a better understanding of the book. I think its a great product. Thank you!

My 4th grader uses this to help with spelling/word meanings. Promotes independence. I don't hear "Mom, how do you spell.....etc...." as much! Great for prewriting/writing.

I have a special needs child that does not speak. The wonderful thing is this device is small and easy to carry with you for him to put in simple words or sentences BUT it does not always recognize alot of words. The plus is you can at least see what he has typed.

It really helped my son with spelling, but it broke easily in his backpack. I'd say be wary if you have a boy who shoves things in his backpack to get out of the school as soon as possible!

I bought this for an adult ESL student who has never been to formal school, is just beginning to learn English and needed a speaking electronic dictionary. It is much less expensive than the adult version available in the USA (although you can get cheaper ones in China, or possibly on the used goods market) and has a vocabulary of 44000 words. It worked well for her and satisfied her needs, and probably will for a while to come. For kids, it seems like a useful resource till their vocabulary demands a more advanced resource, but hopefully by then they would be reading, writing and speaking fluently enough. For a more advanced ESL learner though I would recommend the Franklin Collegiate Dictionary; its much more extensive.
