Yes!! Buy this DVD set. I promise you will not be disappointed. I first caught a glimpse of this show on "On Demand". It was season 4 only. I liked it, but wanted to know more about it. Be advised, season 4 is the worst of all the seasons. When I bought the set I could not wait to see it from the beginning. Let me tell you; you won't be disappointed. The 4th season is not that good, but the first 3 seasons completely make up for it. As everyone who has written a review has stated, Jeff makes the show. He is not in season 4 which is why it's most likely the worst season. I promise you, you will laugh and laugh at this show. Forget about Seinfeld, Sex, in the City, and Friends. This show beats them all. I won't be like all other reviewers. I won't tell about any story lines. I will only tell you that it is the best sitcom(BBC or American or otherwise) that you will ever see. Buy this.

Coupling is a superbly written and acted comedy. It depicts honestly various aspects and tribulations of real life mating rituals and relationships, without resorting to vulgarity, or profanity. The humor does not reflect only British culture, as sex has universal appeal. In addition some social values and stereotypes related to sex are explored in a witty, hilarious maner.
For example, Jane who reports on traffic from a helicopter cannot be fired for incompetence, even after she tells motorists to close their eyes and meditate, which causes crashes and sends motorists to the hospital, or for misdirecting traffic so she can get home faster. When it comes down to longtime, loyal service of the station manager versus Jane's breasts, the manager ends out of a job.
The funniest character is Jeff, played by Richard Coyle. His performance places him in the company of the greatest comedians of all time. Jeff was replaced in the fourth season by Oliver, who is not that funny.
Comparison to the US sitcom Friends is not relevant. All episodes are intelligent, very funny, and some will bring tears to your eyes from laughter. Coupling is a must own comedy masterpiece.

I happened to watch these DVDs during the worst time in my life. I was caring for a terminally ill parent, and far from home, and -- looking back -- it seems amazing that anything could make me laugh.

So, when I tell you that I laughed, loudly and hard, several times per episode, know that this was no small miracle.

I understand the comparisons to Friends and Sex and The City, but this show beats them, hands down. The writing is clever and intelligent and the characters only become more likable as their quirks are revealed.

Of interest are the characters of Sally and Patrick. She's youth-obsessed and vain. He's a serial womanizer with a closet, AKA The Cupboard of Patrick's Love, to prove it. And they end up, both of them, being touching in a way that Ross and Rachel -- hype aside -- never managed.

Several episodes are either framed in a non-linear manner or are revisited from multiple points of view. I know this has been done before, but rarely to such wonderful effect.

The last season is weakest due to the loss of the character of Jeff, but the overall quality of the whole series makes it impossible for me not to give it the highest allowed rating.

This is what television comedy can and should be and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this whole-heartedly to friends.
