Here is what people are saying about the Smash Court Tennis 2: Pro Tournament
5 Star Rating  "A fantastic game"2009-07-07
- Reviewed By hawk197283
I bought this game not too long ago, and I have found this game to be simply amazing.

Pros:
- The gameplay is phenomenal. Most other tennis games basically revolve around hitting a forehand, backhand, lob, and dropshot. In this game, not only do you get the added slice (which is actually useful here) and the flat, powerful shot, but each one of these shots has at least 4 or 5 different variations that you experience based on both the player's and the ball's positions. The gameplay really is very impressive, and the rallies are exciting and sometimes exhilarating.

Furthermore, serving is actually not bad. It's hard, that's for sure, but if you're playing with one of the real players, or your own player has a high mark in serves, it becomes very doable to get aces. At this rate, with an A- in serving, I am getting around 2 aces per 3 games. The serve is also useful to put the opponents out of position, and this is also manageable. It's just that you can't press left and then expect a good serve. You sort of have to navigate the serve without seeing any "marker", but that's something that a player will develop over some games. This game is NOT an arcade game, and anyone expecting that will be disappointed. While it doesn't fully simulate real life (it is a bit too easy to run cross-court and hit a decent shot back), it is much closer to taht than it is an arcade game. And the serve reflects that.

-The Pro Tour mode is great. I kept reading that the mode was "deep" but no one on the web seemed to specify what that actually meant, so I'll do that myself:
Basically you play the calendar seasons, and each week get to decide whether to practice (either a drill or a practice match) or a tournament. However, each time you do something, your stamina gets weaker. Specifically, if you get deep into a tournament, your stamina will be shot, and you'll have to take a longer break before playing again. Now, as for the tournaments, there are the 4 grand slams, 7 Grand Prix's, which are the equivalent of the ATP 1000, 7 Advantage International's, which are the ATP 500, and 8 SmashPoint Series, which are the ATP 250. You will only be able to play the ATP 1000 and ATP 500 once you reach certain rankings. The tournaments themselvess have unique venues which adds a nice touch, with different colors of clay, hard court, and grass tournaments to play with.

-The surfaces actually matter here, as playing on clay is different than playing on grass, and you can feel that difference in the motion, specifically in the ability to play a more serve-and-volley approach during the grass court tournaments.

-Another thing about the Pro tour: I can't talk about the mission mode because I've chosen not to play it. I like playing straight tennis, and the one thing is that you don't play full matches, but usually somewhere between 2 and 6 games depending on the type of tournament and which round you're in. I find this to be more convenient, as I don't have the time to spend hours on each match that I play, not with the task of moving up from 250 to 1 in terms of ranking.

-They have a version of the Davis Cup! It's an international tournament where you play if you're invited. I don't know if it is easy to get invited for all countries, but I had no problems with that.

Cons:

-On some courts, it is actually hard to see the ball. Especially the bright clay of Roland Garros (not much of a problem on the darker clay surfaces) and the green hard court of the AO (that's an old game, remember).

-I do wish Federer was there, but the collection of players is very solid. 8 of each gender is too few, though, but if you're playing Pro Tour mode, that won't be much of a problem.

-The replays are pretty much useless.

All in all, this is a fantastic game, and I would highly recommend it, even with the presence of more advanced games and consoles. It is hard to go wrong with a game this great.

4 Star Rating  "Best Tennis Game I've Played"2009-04-15

All tennis games have their flaws with video game companies making a game instead of trying to stick to tennis. It always puzzles me why other sports have franchises like Madden, NBA, etc, that are true to the sport while tennis games are largely dorky. Of all tennis games i've played for the PS2, this is by far the best.

The original Smashcourt Tennis Pro Tournament had hampered footwork and odd timing mechanisms which are both gone. The visual of the ball to your player make timing logical as in real tennis something I've not seen the Top Spin franchise fix yet as i'm always stretching out of control when I've played that game. In this sequel, you are able to play as one of 16 players who were popular at the game's creation or you can create your own player, earn points, train and develop skills, buy merchandise some with booster skill points like extra speed or power etc. It makes the game replay value very high. The first time i built a player up as skilled as the game allows and then eventually acquired all the best bonus items until I became unbeatable. Now, I replay it from time to time using no bonus items and just my skill points. It's more difficult but is true to tennis idealogy and tactics that make it fun.

Flaws that irritate me, the computer tends to hit amazing down the line passes all the time when I don't think they have time to do so. I'm able to crank up my serve but i never get aces even when i hit the lines. The computer never misses a return and this is another tennis game without the option of allowing real scoring. I would play this game all year and play out the matches in best of 3 or 5 sets but apparently i'm in the minority. Here you can play missions trying to satisfy a computer requirement like serve 80% in this game or you can play out to like first to 3 games win by 2, four games, etc, depending on the round of tournament and the size of tournament. Grand slam finals are one standard set. I would also like the option of creating a player who hits two-hands off both sides.

Still, it's the best of all i've tried including Top Spin, Top Spin 2, Agassi Tennis, Hard Hitter Tennis, and Smashcourt 1.

i have played every tennis video game ever made from sega to ps to xbox to supernintendo you name it ihave played it.only super tennis for the super nintendo is as good as smashcourt tennis 2.this game gets the edge though due to graphics.contrary to what other revieweres say i have no problem serving out wide in fact i do that alot to because im a serve and volleyer.i was upset with the new smashcourt tennis 3 sequel it is totally different from this one.all they had to do was a few little things and they would have had the perfect game instead they totally change the movement of the game making it similar to top spin 3.so i guess i will have to stick to smashcourt tennis 2 until they make a better tennis game.so far they havent and the new games show they are moving in the wrong direction as far as tennis games go.

I think I can agree with the rest of the reviewers that this is the better of tennis games for Playstation 2. I have not played Top Spin though. Anyway, Smash Court 2 is very fun to play, it gets your competitive juices flowing, but this game is very difficult to win matches on - even on the easy level. I don't think I suck at this game or at video games in general. I find the player movement on screen is often not as fast as I would like in order to get to the ball. Now I am not an avid real tennis player as it seems from a lot of the other reviewers that they are, and it these people that appreciate this game the most. So perhaps this is why I find this game so hard.

Ok Customers,

This game is definately the easiest tennis game I have ever played. I have played rival games such as Topspin and SegaSport tennis and none come 3percent close. The only thing that would give this game 20stars is if it came with online gaming.

Listen yall, Just cause I give this game 5 stars does not mean that it is the best tennis game. I have high standards becuase I am a die hard tennis fan and I feel like the gaming world dont really put their hearts into creating tennis games as they do other sporting games. But to be fair and completely honest this game is what I love to call fair.

There is nothing to complain about in this game when it comes to playing a good game of tennis. You have all the shots the player listen to you and the keys are very easy to master. I could probably beat the game with my feet.

Yall talking about the pro tour mode. It is a little bit more challenging but it is so much fun, and I dont like to cheat and chose the set mode, i think it is much more challengeing to play the pro tour mode in the generic standards.

Yall need to know that a bunch of feminist created this game. This is definately big babes tennis, because the women hits the ball 10 times as hard as the men, and although it says that their serves are weaker it is a lie. The guys hit the shot all awkward and have box bodies, while the girls have the most curvacious and biggest behinds you have ever seen on a woman, and they hit the ball with such style and accuracy, that it looks so real. And they have their animated screams. Hey they definately made this game for people who are more interested in womens tennis like me because I love to play with these girls. I feel the fight more from them than the guys. Especially when I pit Justine and Serena in roland garros. I make sure serena gets the revenge on Justine and double bagel her cheating behind.

The characters looks so real, and the game looks so good visually. You will love this game if you get someone who loves the game to and you both compete against one another. It was meant for friends to compete against one another because the computer players are to easy to beat. And the game is so fair because when you play against someone who knows their game it is the most explosive tennis game you will ever see in your life. Please listen to me and get this game solely for this reason. I think this is the secret power and worth to this game, to play it with another devoted tennis gaming fan. I really hope you enjoy this game. I have been playing it for over 4years now and I never grow bored of it. You will definately not regret this one, and trust me I have regreted all the other tennis games that I have bought but this one is fair, and I know that everyone here knows it. Take it from an extremely diehard tennis player, and tennis gaming fan, that this is a classic and the best tennis game to date.
