"Great design poor quality on arrival" | 2009-09-30 |

| Chose the Actron CP9145 after reading many reviews on other products and the full actron line, so I ordered one. Upon arrival at the shop the first problem I noticed was there was no 9 volt battery included with the kit. After a trip to the store to buy a battery I read all the instructions and started to use it. Turns out mine was defective, along the top 4 rows of the LCD display there was a block of cells where no numbers or letters would display. Blank spot, nothing there at all. This rendered data interpretation impossible. No local repair, no download fix, sorry! If it had this error, quite obvious on start up and should have been caught prior to leaving the factory, what else was wrong and lurking within? I returned the unit for a full refund and am now looking for a different manufacturer. Case also seemed light and unpadded so what out for that drop to the shop floor. May work great if you get a good one, but I would look at alternatives too. |

| I purchased this item because I was assuming I could connect the scanner to my PC via USB. According to the user's manual, there is an optional USB cable, but I can't find it anywhere. Actron should update the information they post, so customers don't get disappointed like me. |

"Looks good on paper, barely competent in practice" | 2009-07-16 |

Purchased this scanner 2 months ago and it's use has been problematic at best. As advertised it's supposed to be able to interface with EEC, ALDL, ODB-1, ODB-2 and be CAN upgradeable. In general use it doesn't even see EEC, I don't own a GM vehicle so I can't test ALDL, ODB works but is sometimes sketchy and the upgrade to CAN was removed off the market I'm guessing a minimum of 6 months ago. BTW to top everything off the online update claim is a complete joke, those have been pulled off the web site and from other's claims utilize an archaic 16-bit application, not to mention a serial cable that is also no longer offered. Due to this experience I have severe doubts in purchasing any Actron products ever again.

"Actron Scanner Does The Job!!!" | 2009-03-18 |

First, I want to address the issues from the complainers:
For the reviewer that complained the unit was too big - You do realize this unit is larger because it has a fuller display and gives you more information than those tiny handheld units?
For the reviewer that stated about the cord being short - These were designed with the professional mechanic in mind. The same people who usually have the car/truck on a lift. At that height, the area where the OBDII connector is (which is usually under the dashboard near the drivers knees) this puts it at the right height.
For the reviewer that said they wished there was a cheaper option for the OBDI vehicles - You do realize that most of the cars before OBDII can be read with an ignition key sequence, or for the most part, with a jumper wire or paper clip? I have done this for years. That is all the OBDI kits do. The create a "jumper wire" between these 2 points to cause the engine light to flash to get your codes.
For the reviewer that stated that it does not show live data - Are you sure you know what you are looking for? Or are you trying to describe something different. It has the live data and freeze frame data. With the car running, it shows current voltages, temperatures, RPM's, etc.
If you are looking to purchase this, but are unsure, don't let the few negative reviewers steer you away. This is a capable product in the hands of someone who has basic mechanical knowledge. It is going to read the computers codes and give them to you. It is your responsibility to ake that information and diagnose your problem. The unit does exactly what it advertises it does, and it dies it very well. This is actually my second one I bought. I loaned my first one out, and never got it back. |

| I used this code scanner and it works as advertised. It sure has saved me time and money. I recommend this product to anyone that wants to learn about how car electronics relating to the engine really works. And Amazon has a heck of a savings on this scanner that can't be beat. |
