The Seiko dive auto remains my all-time favorite watch. Thi timepiece is classic, rugged, sturdy, handsome and has a great feel. I do not think t's the "best" watch out there for the money, but I do find it the most bang for teh buck with exceptions...

Malasian movement is fast! This is a fact you must live with! This watch runs on average about 7 seconds fast over 24 hours. After a month of wear, that's minutes....

My oldest Seiko Auto Diver is 27 years old now. The luminescents are still working....okay.... Of course my newer one is tip-top.

The price is certainly right for what you get!

The watch remains, in my opinion, the most recognizable watch out there and it tells a story about the wearer; classic, rugged and efficient.

At the end of the day, the Traser H3 Auto is a far better watch for a couple hundred more, but it simply doesn't have the same look and feel as teh Seiko Auto diver.

Unfortunately, this watch stopped working when I dropped it about 4 feet onto asphalt pavement. I liked the easy readability and utility of the rotating bezel. It kept decent time; nothing great. The failure after such a trivial knock would make me wary of relying on it. Users needing a reliable dive watch should choose something more substantial.

BTW, I did not look into getting it fixed as I consider additional spending on the watch to be throwing good money after bad.

Nice but I mean it's just another basic non-hacking, non-windable Seiko Caliber 7s26 21-jewel movement in the same type of diver case as others like the SKX009, SKX007, SKX031, SKX013, orange "Monster" series etc. So why does it cost twice as much for?

I wore the earlier version of the Seiko SKX173 (which was model #6309-7049) in the late 1980's for 4 years while on active duty in the ARMY as an infantryman. I bought that watch at the Naval Post Graduate PX in Monterey, CA for roughly $120... I beat that watch up to the point where it had DENTS and it NEVER once failed me. I sold that watch in 2003 for $165. Dumb move.

4 months ago while in the USMA PX I saw the SKX173 and paid around $160, strapped it on and knew I had a watch of presence back on my wrist. I timed it for a month and noted that it was +3 seconds/day, awesome (even better than my Seiko from the 80's). Over the last few days I timed the watch - again +3 seconds/day! I guess I got a good one, this baby will stay where it belongs... on my wrist taking a beating.
