"several more cracked crystals" | 2009-09-20 |

| I purchased this watch in 2008. Within months, the crystal cracked and I sent it back to Skagen for replacement. Again, within months, it cracked again and I had it replaced by a local watchmaker. When the third crystal cracked, I threw the watch away. Good styling doesn't make up for bad design. |

"Nice but not as durable as it looks" | 2009-08-22 |

I bought my Skagen 170LTTM almost five years ago for full retail at a Watch World store at a mall.
The Good: It looks sophisticated, and I have received quite a few compliments on it's appearance over the years.
The mesh band, along with the adjustable clasp, is in my opinion the best feature of this watch. It's very comfortable, and looks durable yet elegant. The end of the band slides through the clasp on the inside of the band, so it's tucked away out of sight and out of the way.
The Bad: There is one design flaw which has irritated me on many occasions: The sweep second hand is the exact same length as the minute hand, and to the naked eye looks to be the same width as well. So, because the second hand doesn't move continuously, but instead jumps in one-second increments, it's difficult if not impossible to glance at the watch while driving down the road and be able to discern the correct time. You have to stare at the watch face until you see one of the hands jump, then you have to look for the hand that didn't jump to find the minute hand, then you should be able to tell what time it is. However, by that time you may be on the verge of an auto accident because you had to stare at your watch too long! For this flaw alone I would not recommend anyone buy this watch, unless this flaw is fixed.
The other problems I had with this watch is the lack of durability of the band and clasp. At about the three-year mark, the clasp cover would no longer stay closed over the clasp, and would instead swing freely back and forth as my wrist moved. This elicited many comments from people pointing out to me that my watch clasp was loose. That necessitated my explanation that it was in fact not the clasp but the clasp cover that was not latched, but that it was broken and could not be latched. About a year and a half after that (the 4-1/2 year mark), the edge of mesh band began to disintegrate at one particular spot, causing sharp points of wire ends to snag and tear at my clothing. For this reason I was forced to stop wearing this watch, as it was destroying my clothing. For six more months I kept the watch in my car console, but finally the battery (which was not the factory one but a replacement) got too weak, which caused it to lose quite a bit of time and so it became completely useless.
One note about the reviewers who wrote that they hear an audible ticking sound from the watch: They must have a watch with a manufacturing anomaly, because the only way I can hear my watch ticking is to put it right up against my ear, and even then it is faintly heard.
My ending feeling on this watch is that I got a few good years out of it, which I enjoyed other than the difficulty of locating the minute hand at a glance. But the final couple of years were more annoyance than pleasure, and so I would not recommend this watch to anyone.
My new watch will be a Citizen Eco-Drive (solar powered) with a leather band.

"My New Favorite Skagen Watch" | 2009-03-12 |

I love this watch! I selected it because it is similar in design to the 1999 stainless steel Skagen watch that I still love and wear. I chose this for its titanium case (my 1999 Skagen's finish has worn off of the case) and old band style. I have never had any need for repairs on the 1999 version and hope the same is true for this model.
I read the reviews for this watch after I purchased it; and, before it arrived, I ordered a watch bra (28mm size) from luxlogs to protect the crystal. The watch bra fits the curved crystal, is barely detectable, and has kept the crystal damage free (despite my clumsy bumps and drops).
I have good hearing and have not heard this watch ticking from my bedstand at night. Also, I knew from the photos of the watch that the dial would be hard to read at night before I purchased it.
I am happy to have this new Skagen as I can retire my old 1999 version to yard work and athletic activities and keep the new, more business-worthy appearing Skagen for all other occasions.

"Can Be Loud" | 2009-01-14 |

I bought this watch for the full $120 on a flight to Shanghai, and the receiver loves it. The main reason why I bought it is because it is solid titanium and won't irritate his metal allergy, but when I opened it I found that the clasp was stainless steel, which can cause problems. Nevertheless, he hasn't had a problem with it, but some other people might.
I also agree with the people who say that the watch could use something to help visibility in the dark. They're right. The face is almost impossible to read in the dark even though it does look very handsome in the daytime.
It is also loud. He never takes it off, but I can still hear it, particularly at night. Still, it looks gorgeous on him and will look good on anyone with a warmer skin tone. It's a lovely gunmetal grey. |

"Hard to read dial" | 2008-08-13 |

| I got this watch as a gift 2 years ago. It still works great. No problem with the crystal breaking and I don't mind the ticking noise(watches tick). I have a big problem with being able to read the dial in any low light situations. I like a watch that I can glance at and know the time. This is a major annoyance to me. |

I have other Skagen watches (this one replaces one that I smashed - long storey). The watch looks much more expensive than it is - so you can wear it with jeans or with a suit.
Is very thin, fits extremely well, has an adjustable band that is very simple to use, and looks fantastic. What more could you ask for in a watch at this price. Oh - it is also very accutate!!! |
