This is a must have item. We had two swings. One, a Baby Einstein, given to us and although we were grateful, she hated it. The second one, we purchased, was this swing and it has served us every stage of my one-year olds infant life.
As a newborn, my daughter didn't like swinging but would fall asleep if swinging sideways. Something about the side-to-side movement on a newborn's head was comforting to her rather than the back and forth motion of a traditional swing. The first few months she slept in this swing, sometimes overnight. You know when sometimes that is necessary because you need a decent night's sleep. The lights and white noise provided a distraction during very trying colicky times. I love the variety of settings and combinations that give the parent control. The "reset" button to allow for continued use without clicking any buttons is a wonderful feature.
This swing grew with her over the following months. As she learned new developmental movements like sitting up and rolling over, she much preferred to practice than go to sleep. We would put her in the swing and she would go out like a light and then we would transfer her to her crib where she would get a great nap. This allowed her to learn when naptime was and encouraged her to give in to the feeling of sleep.
Around 8 months she began to crawl and would scream like crazy if I had to stick her in her crib when somebody came to the door or I had to run to the restroom and didn't want to leave her unattended. The swing was the ideal place for her to go. She enjoyed swinging by this stage. It was also nice to be able to feed her a simple snack like puffs or cheerios and not have her be sitting in her high chair or the floor.
Now that she's a crawler/walker, we still use the swing. She loves pulling up on it and likes the fact that it is not stable like a table. She uses it to practice her balance. She still plays with the spinning toys on the tray. And she STILL is swinging in it. She's a tiny one-year old, 18lbs. Most children this age have surpassed the weight limit. Thankfully she has not because she's going through a transitional period where she is re-figuring out her nap schedule. When all else fails, we can put her in the swing with a bottle of soy milk (we're beginning to wean) and she falls right asleep!
Yes, it uses 4-D Sized batteries but you need power to run something so technologically advanced. Our batteries would last us around two weeks. Sometimes a little longer. We just bought them in large packs from Costco. Totally worth it as we used this swing daily.
Thank you Fisher-Price for this wonderful, wonderful product! |

| We bought a swing because so many people swore that a swing was the answer to better sleep for us and our new baby. We bought this particular one after I did some research both online and in person with friends who had purchased this one. I buy just about anything that someone tells me works for THEIR baby. I now know that truly it depends on the baby, as some techniques or products have worked and some have not. Our baby wasn't quite four weeks when we bought it and she was not fond of her rocker, so I had high hopes for the swing. She really didn't like it at first..well, let's say, it didn't work the magic I was hoping it would. It was good to put her in while I had to do things like shower or eat, but she would start crying after 10 minutes or so. The main problem was that "jumping" they do in their sleep that wakes them up. I think it has something to do with their sense of gravity. Anyway, she is now 7 weeks old and she has gotten more used to it. I still can't put her in it and expect to sleep four hours without her crying, like I was told by friends, but she will go down maybe an hour, sometimes longer, which is good. So, I am hoping we progress to that point if we can't get her transitioned to the bed soon. The aquarium above her head does keep her attention and it was easy to put together. It's fairly easy to move around the house, but I wish I had two so I wouldn't have to move it between levels when I'm at home alone with her. You can't move it with baby in arms. I will say, at first, I thought the first swing setting was too fast and high...but she seems to have gotten used to it. I would recommend buying this product. I am hoping I can update my review as she gets more used to it. |

Initially I bought a more expensive swing that runs on electricity. My son hated it.
I was visiting my brother's family and tried this swing and my first born absolutely loved it. I borrowed it and used it until he was too old for it.
As soon as I got pregnant with my second, I told my husband "if we intend to get any sleep, we better buy that swing." So we bought this swing and once again, we love it. |

| Between our 2 children we have had both of the top selling Fisher Price models - the Ocean Wonders and the Papasan cradle swings. While we have been happy with both, our favorite by far is the Ocean Wonders. The mobile on it is SO much better, with the hanging toys and the lights. My oldest son actually still plays with the fish toys that hung from his swing mobile when he was a baby -- he loves them to this day! My youngest son got the papasan swing instead and while it functions basically the same the mobile just isn't very interesting in comparison. Our papasan swing broke recently and Fisher Price (excellent customer service) is cutting us a check for a replacement -- we'll be getting another Ocean Wonders instead of the papasan. |

I am a new first time Mom, my son is 3 weeks old and he is generally very calm, however at night time and in the mornings he can get a bit fussy at times and causes me to loose sleep several days in a row. This swing is amazing in that it puts him to sleep within minutes of being placed into it! I have it in my home office at the moment so I can finally start working again! He is wonderful in it! It has 6 speed settings however the difference in speeds is minuscule.
Alot of reviewers complain about the noise it makes, frankly it does not bother me, I take it as though it is just another sound setting. It is actually quite soothing, downright put me to sleep last night! Which is a plus considering the music on drains the battery faster then anything plus you have to keep resetting it. I'll play the music while he's awake, but if he's starting to doze off, I let it go and he falls asleep to that whooshing sound. Again very soothing, not at all noisy! Plus its way better then the sound of the baby crying anyway!
Overall I love this swing, I just got it yesterday and have already used it in the two difficult times I have with him sleeping. So I'm already sold. If I find I need to add to this review at a later date I will, but for now it truly is a Godsend for my sanity! |
