"Eco-Drive is excellent!" | 2009-11-19 |

I love simple, elegant devices. This one fits the bill. Previously owned a Seiko Kinetic, which I loved for the fact that it was electric yet powered by wrist movement-- so accurate yet batteryless. The Eco-drive watches are similar, but solar, not wrist-powered. In about 20 minutes of fading winter sunlight, the watch was good to go. Only critique I have is that the mineral scratched nearly immediately.
However, I calibrated the watch with an atomic clock app, and since I did that a few weeks back it hasn't lost a single second. That's pretty sweet. It's a little on the thick side but not overly so. If you want svelte, this is not it. But other reviewers complaining about the band are off the mark-- the band is a bit stiff, but functional and not uncomfortable.
Despite the waterproof claims, I wouldn't take the watch swimming. Anyway, the band (which is canvas) couldn't take the water, especially seawater.
All in all, a very nice watch. If you're considering a Casio Solar-Atomic, skip it and go for this watch. Much classier, probably just as accurate. |

"Great watch for the price!" | 2009-11-15 |

This is the first new watch I've purchased in many years, and so far, I love it. A handsome, but simple and easy-to-see face with day and date, with accurate timekeeping. I get the impression from other reviews that a lot of guys got this watch for the same reason I did....sick and tired of watches that die after 12 to 24 months and then spending anything from $5 to $10 to install a new battery. The Citizen Eco-Drive is charged by the sun (or indoor light), so it's enviromentally friendly.
The one thing that kept the watch from getting 5 stars, and the very gripe others have expressed, is the band. I'm a slender guy, with smaller-than-average wrists, and even on my arm, the band was too small, with no 'happy medium'. At the 2-hole setting, it will stay on my wrist, but moves around. At 3 holes, it cuts off the circulation. There are 7 holes total, and I can't imagine anyone, not even an extremely petite woman or very small child using the 7th hole. Citizen must have designed this using those ultra-slim Asian wrists in mind (Citizen is based in Tokyo). They should really consider giving this otherwise excellent watch a different band. |

"A Good Watch" | 2009-11-14 |

| This is a good looking watch. It gains about 2 seconds per week which is good for a low priced quartz watch. I like the green canvas band with leather lining. The watch band is almost too short. Someone with a large wrist will find they will have to replace it with a longer band. If it came with a longer band I would have given it 5 stars. |

"This watch far exceeded all my expectations." | 2009-11-04 |

I had been looking for a watch with a canvas strap in a military style. I previously bought a Seiko 5 SNK (the band did not fit my thin wrist) and a Smith&Wesson military watch (inferior quality), but was unsatisfied with both.
The Citizen Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch far exceeded both those watches and my own expectations. Below is a quick walkthrough of all the details I love about this watch.
- Size: As mentioned earlier, I have relatively thin wrists. The band on this Eco-Drive fit perfectly. In fact, there was still an extra grommet left after strapping it on! A perfect watch for all sizes.
- Band: The band is not cheap! It is sturdy, with leather backing underneath and finely stitched together. The olive green color makes it look like what one imagines a military watch resembles. It is indeed a fashionable watch, if a bit muted in that regard (which is positive).
- Case: The case measures roughly 37-38mm. A medium size, as far as watches go. I was concerned that the watch would look too big on me, as I typically go for watches with a smaller case size. The case size is perfect, resting on my arm in a seemingly natural manner. The face itself displays only the necessary details. And the red second-hand is an amazing touch.
- Mechanism: I love the use of solar power to operate this watch. The watch is not loud at all; indeed, it is fairly silent. I have owned the watch for almost three weeks now and have not seen the watch fall behind or go forward in time. Such precision for such little cost.
- Style: Despite its military looks, this is one fashionable watch. Great with casual wear or with more sophisticated flare. I've found it not just to be a perfect watch, but a perfect accessory as well.
Overall, I would recommend this watch without hesitation to anyone looking for a military-style watch. I can't state enough good things about this Citizen Eco-Drive. I have been completely satisfied with it and hope to have it for a long time. |
