I dropped this on the floor in a building at McMurdo Base in Antarctica and broke the flash assembly. Had been happy with the camera, so found parts online and order the flash. Turned out to be a good number of little screws to remove, but not fundamentally difficult. That repair was a couple of years ago. Last winter I bought much better digital cameras for my daughters at a cost of $110 each with extra batteries and cases. Wouldn't be worth repairing now.

I've had this product for a couple years. I used to have an older Olympus digital camera. The Canon SD550 is a good choice for the money, especially since I didn't want to spend hundreds of extra dollars for some more megapixels. Nevertheless, I find that the Olympus camera took MUCH better night/dark pictures than this Canon. The Powershot is good for the "point and shoot" feature, and can take very nice pictures, but something about the way they come up doesn't compare to my old Olympus. The colors, contrast, and brightness just don't come out as sharp - you really have to TRY and take a great picture, while with some cameras (e.g., my old Olympus, friends' newer cameras) they just HAPPEN.
Overall, this camera has been sturdy and has suited me well. I bought the Canon Powershot case for it, and it fits nicely.
The battery life is pretty good, and it's been able to withstand my bouncing it around and dropping it. I'd recommend a warranty if you're like me.
Conclusion: Nice camera for the price (which at the time was around $400 but should be much cheaper now). Could be better, but it's small and sturdy and has suited me well.

I bought this EXACT camera from Wal-Mart 2 years ago for around $200.00. It has been a very nice camera and worth the $200.00. The only thing I wish I could change is the 3x optical zoom. I would like 5x or 10x but for the money ($200) it is a good camera. How the vendors at Amazon can ask for $400-$600 is beyond me! That is a rip-off.

I've broken the screen on this camera twice and I'm not going to bother to fix it again. When it's working it's fantastic for a point-and-shoot, just make sure you encase this in steel if you decide to buy it.
"Hi-Quality, Canon Excellene in small form factor"
We still have this camera in our family and it was an excellent buy, as all of our Canon cameras have been. Love the small Digital Elph format, which makes it easy to carry in my pocket or wife's purse. Picture quality is excellent and has great battery life.

I bought the SD550 before my trip to Paris in 2006 and was most pleased with its lightness, ease of use and excellent photo quality! Early on I dropped it onto a concrete sidewalk whilst I was strolling along, but it only received scratches and worked fine thereafter (however, I learned it is best to use the wrist strap to prevent "droppage". Whew.) I have now owned it two years and just lately have more difficulty with fuzzy photos and notice it is not as great in lesser lighting situations. I do agree this camera does not work well for taking distance photos that require light (such a school concert), but over all I have enjoyed it. Next time I would look for one with image stabilizer.
