Was having trouble with Satellite receiver running hot. This is the perfect solution. It blows air in the right place and is powered by the usb port on the reviever which is very convenient.

In this day and age, one actually expects electronics products to be overpriced and work poorly. The Thermaltake Mobile Fan II was priced so cheaply, and arrived so quickly after ordering, that it was hard for me to take it seriously. I figured it would soon be functioning as a paperweight on my desk. I was wrong.

My office desk is a huge, hulking piece of heavy dark wood, probably designed before computers were even extant. My PC is tucked into a large enclosed cabinet, and which functions as a sauna for the computer. A passing IT guy warned me that the increased temp would undoubtedly shorten the life of my hard-drive, and he was right: it eventually cooked, and we had to buy a new PC. In the hopes of extending its days on this troubled planet, I bought the Thermaltake II, and was immediately impressed by how something so small could produce so much cool air, so (relaively) noiselessly. By opening the cabinet door slightly to serve as a vent, I can now blow all the hot air generated by the PC out into the office and keep the cabinet temp low. Which is precisely what I needed it to do.

The Thermaltake is small, powerful, and has adjustable speeds; its only drawback is that it is USB powered and therefore draws its source-energy from the computer, which means it can only run when the computer is on. Because of that I penalized it one star, but It is a workhorse, blasting cool air all day without distracting noise or malfunction. In short, it does what it promises to do, and for very few bucks. Highly recommended.

After sifting through many USB fans on Amazon and having used a gooseneck USB fan previously I settled on this as my choice for keeping myself cool at the office. Yes, it's a little more expensive than some of the other USB fans you may find. Yes, it's a little industrial looking. Personally I like the look. Sort of techno-geek-chic. Also, this is the only reputable company I've found selling a USB fan. Thermaltake makes a good product.

Here are some highlights/lowlights:

-Compact size (about the size of a square post-it from corner to corner and an inch deep.
-Thin but solid retractable USB cable.
-Speed control really should be called 3-speed. Yes, it has a knob for speed control but there are two very obvious jump ups in speed as you turn the knob.
-No off mode, you have to pull the cable out of the USB port.
-Descent air movement for a small fan. About on-par with the gooseneck fan I had previously.
-I suspect this will last a lot longer than the gooseneck fan due to the fact that this is basically a computer case fan with a wire stand and a speed control knob.
-Quiet enough for a nearly silent office environment even at full blast.

Final Verdict:

Worth the total cost with shipping over other USB fans if you're looking to cool yourself and not your laptop.

I got this fan as additional cooling for my Acer 5672WLMi which gets uncomfortably hot everytime I try to run it. This was my second Thermaltake Mobile Fan II and both work fine at low levels (moves decent amounts of air), but when you turn the speed dial up the fan can become a little noisy. Aside from the noise, the variable speed feature is nice, but there isn't an on/off switch, but that isn't a big deal to me. I'd give this a 4.5/5.0 if I could. Good Product

I purchased this fan so i could externally cool down the inside of my computer case. It does a fair job, but because of it's small size
it will drop my temperature only one or two degrees C. Not a bad price though. It has a USB connection so one doesn't need to plug it into a wall outlet.I also use it to cool me down while surfing the web.It works either way.
