"Best Headhpones - Clear & Rich Sound, Awesome bass response!" | 2009-06-29 |

First I'd like to point out that these headphones most definitely live up to the "studio-standard" name it's been given. The audio response is very well balanced: no piercing highs, no enveloping mids, no muddy/overpowering bass. Every single nuance is represented with pristine clarity, and when people say that you'll hear everything with these headphones, they mean it.
To the people worrying about the absence of bass due to these being studio-monitoring headsets, the bass is, without a doubt, there in full presence. If you're used to hearing muddy sounding bass or music drenched in low-end sloppiness, you'll be surprised to hear how articulately the MDR-7506 reproduces bass, yet still managing to hit the listener with such a convincing punch.
The high end is of course a pleasure to listen to. The high notes are crystal clear and do not show any signs of being artificially represented or stressed, giving a very silky smooth sound.
As for the midrange? One fear of buying headphones is that you end up with hollow sounding music due to the lack of a solid defined midrange, but the midrange is one more thing to compliment about the 7506's. From prominent male vocals to snares, nothing ever seems overpowered, and yet it manages to fill the space with a full rich sound.
Overall, the combination in sound from all the spectrums produces a very unbiased enjoyable harmony to the ears. As I listen to all types of music genres, from ballads to rock, classic to RnB, and pop to techno, I have yet to find a genre that these heaphones fail to reproduce with exceptional fidelity.
And did I mention these headphones are very comfortable? I've worn these close to half a day without my ears being fatigued. Many earbuds and headphones have the tendency to make ears hurt/sore after only a short session of listening. I would say I have bigger than normal sized ears and the large-diaphragm design, combined with the very soft leather-wrapped earpads, really helps in making the circumural design (wrapped around the ears as opposed to on top) work well. Having had these headphones for 1-2 years already, the quality is still as good as when I got them, and I don't doubt that they will be any different for a long long while.
Ultimately, with the price tag being conveniently under 100 USD, this is an excellent buy. Even in comparison with higher end headphones, the sound quality for the MDR-7506 is still ranked as the top in my charts, as well as many other people's. If you look closely at professional settings around the world (i.e. studio performances, behind-the-scenes movie sets, & radio stations), as I have started to notice recently, you will see this exact model appear time and time again for a very good reason. |

"Best Headphones Ever." | 2009-06-21 |

There are many people in the world who pay no attention to the headphones they buy, and regret it later. It's one of those mini comforts in our world that no one pays attention to until it's too late.
I've been through many headphones of many different types because I listen to music several times a day. I also listen to it in many different environments. If you are listening in your own home, this pair of headphones is the best, ever, hands-down. It is SUPER comfortable for an extended duration of time (I've listened to music for up to eight hours on this pair and haven't felt any pressure build-up) and the sound/bass is FANTASTIC. I'm not an expert on low, mid, and high range tones but I can definitely tell that my music - in its entirety being VERY diverse - sounds great on all fronts whether the bass or a singing voice is emphasized.
Outside noise is very well muffled. Even when silent, you will have trouble hearing what someone is saying to your face. Definitely my preference. Another preference of mine is its flexibility. It folds very well into a compact size making it very easy to carry with you. The cord is a little long and unwieldy sometimes, but I would rather have it too long than too short.
If you want something for sports or exercise, this isn't for you. But in those cases, you're probably not worrying too much about audio quality so you should look elsewhere anyway. For those who really want to HEAR their music, and not the outside world, this is the pair for you for a decent price.
I've had this pair for four years and after extended use it doesn't look any different than the day I bought it brand new; I haven't detected any degrade in audio either with age. |

I like the sound quality over my previous sony mx600. It is well built and the padding is comfy. I use it for gaming such as l4d and source. For music its just as good, very clear and sharp. It has enough bass to make me happy plus I can increase it in my sound options. This is A MUST BUY, trust me dont waste ur money on those 200 dollar earphones.
And I received it in 2 days. FAST SHIPPING. |

I'm a recent college grad and amateur musician(piano, sax, guitar). and I've owned these headphones since June of 2004(5 years later they still sound as great as when I first bought them). I had originally purchased them for use with my electronic instruments (synthesizers and guitars) but these soon became the only pair of headphones I reach for when I want to listen to anything. The sound is fantastic, exactly the way the artist intended it, and it's easy to pick up all the different nuances within a piece of music. Sure I look like a dork while wearing them in public, but its a small price to pay for the amazing sound.
They are INCREDIBLY rugged. I totally mistreat these things, but the plastic and metal construction has held up to years of being thrown in backpacks and gear bags. Also, The cord shows little sign of wear(the plastic coating is really thick) and the stitching on the headband is holding tight. Other reviewers say these things have lasted them decades, and I'm a believer. Just keep them in the included leather bag to prevent scratches, and they'll stay nice and shiny black.
It's absolutely true these are an "industry standard", my favorite sighting is on one of the Lord of the Rings DVDs were you can clearly see Peter Jackson sporting a pair of MDR 7506s while filming on location in New Zealand.
The only flaw in the design is the pleather pads that come with the phones. These become really sweaty and uncomfortable with long wear (which is what you'll be doing when you have these, you won't want to take them off). And after years of use, the plastic covering will start peeling off and become a total mess. Swapping the pads for "beyerdynamic edt 250" velour pads is a must. Not only does it make them more comfortable, but it blocks out more sound, and excenuates the bass (well, that could be a bad thing depending on your tastes, but if you're spending this much for headphones you know how to use an equalizer, right?). |

I've done lot of research on headphones before choosing this one and I don't regret about it.
These headphones are the best, the quality of the sound and the materials and strength are incredible.
If you pay attention to famous bands recording sessions (mostly on the 90's), you'll see they are using a pair of these ones. |

I'll start by way of giving some background, I am not an expert, but I am an amateur audiophile. I have owned the MDR7506 Professionals for 3 days, and can say that they are clear, pure, and comfortable. My first pair of high-end head phones was a pair of Denons I bought in the 90's. I can't bear to listen to music on my Apple earbuds, though they are fine for podcasts. I also own a pair of Sennheiser PX100s which are pretty good, but are open and disturb those around me, and they simply can't compete with these Sony's (though they are much more portable).
The Sony's produce beautiful clear sound, and allow me to hear every detail of the music I am listening to, whether it is Hip-Hop, Classical, Latin or Soft music. The bass is clean and warm, but not too boomy, and the mids and highs are pure and clear and not muddy. They fold up reasonably well, allowing me to take them traveling, though it can still be difficult to fit them in a laptop bag. The MDR7506s fit nicely on my head, though a little tight at first, they loosen up over time (I tested a well worn pair at a store), they are over-the-ear, and create a nice seal keeping the sound in, while keeping most ambient sound out. I can certainly wear these next to someone sleeping without waking them up.
The earcups are of leatherette and do warm up a bit with use, I haven't had a problem yet, but I haven't worn them for extended periods.
The ONLY possible downsides with these headphones are that they may feel sweaty with extended use, and that the backs of the earcups are made of metal so when they are folded up, they tend to scuff the black paint from the first day.
I recently tried the Sennheiser HD 555s and the HD-280s, though both produced beautiful sound, the 555s are open and so loud as to feel like they are playing for the person next to you. The 280s, sounded delicious and were a bit cheaper in price but a bit bigger (it was a tough call between the 280s and the Sonys). But as I wanted these for traveling as well as for home, the 280s were bigger and didn't seem to fold up at all. Also, they were tighter on the head and gave me the feeling that they would be uncomfortable for long sittings.
I am very happy with these, and would recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone. |

I've used the headphones heavily for 4 months now - I travel by plane a lot and work in a noisy environment - the headphones are great for both.
I originally looked for noise reducing phones but found that the decent ones are very pricey, don't have great sound quality and comfort (the degree to which headphones reduce noise is largely determined on how tight the phones fit).
I chose these as the best balance between sound quality, price, and noise reduction (fully covers ears). I couldn't be happier with them. They muffle out background noises effectively on the plane, allowing me to get lost in an audiobook or tune. I often fall asleep with them on while traveling so I can vouch for their comfort.
In the office they help me prevent distractions - ambiance audio works especially great to help keep me focused. My ipod has no problem delivering plenty of volume through them. I often wear them 4+ hrs. a day. At times my ears get a bit warm but I think that's a trait of all ear-covering phones.
They fold into themselves into a lump which fits into an included storage bag and fits well in my travel bag. Sound quality is excellent - my untrained ears can really hear differences in recording fidelity. |

These are pretty good; They have a solid and full sound to them, are built well, and are very comfortable. They do a great job of keeping the noise of the outside world out so that you feel like you are right in the music.
[..]
I noticed some other people mentioning that this set lacks a bassy bump to it, I however think the bass is perfect in them. If you are big into hip-hop or pop, you might want set your equalizer to match what ever you are listening to, and then the set will explode with sound.
Anyways I would without a doubt recommend them to a friend, just wish they weren't so expensive. (but I guess they are "professional" ohh! hah) |
