"Best confort for $20. Sound/construction problems?" | 2009-11-11 |

So here's my story regarding this product. I got a pair and immediately noticed that it was comfortable and I went on a 4 hour walk wearing them, after which I had no soreness around my ears, but did have a minor pain in my neck because the unit is a little heavy and in my feet but that's hardly this unit's fault. The neck pain was not that bad and went 100% away 20 minutes after taking the headphones off. I have made this 4 hour walk several other times with the same result. It also blocked noise quite well though it is not technically "noise-cancelling." About 2 weeks in, I noticed that a rattle in the right side speaker had appeared, so I returned them for the same product in exchange just in case it was a fluke. Second pair had a loose wire so with every step I took the speaker wire (which is heavy enough and long enough to swing back and forth quite a bit when not secured in place somehow made a noticeable noise in the left ear. I just got in the habit of securing the wire in place using my belt so no big deal, but then I noticed that rattle again after about a week. At this point I decided this is just a kind of shotty product (keep reading though) and immediately boxed up and returned for a refund rather than exchange.
I may have been hasty. I switched to other headphones and noticed this same rattle. These headphones have never before or since had this problem and I now think it's possible (but I'm not 100% sure) that the rattle was coming from shotty recording on the podcast I was listening to at the time. And anyway, I only returned the product out of fear that the rattle would get worse and was generally an indication of a broken product. As it was, it really wasn't so bad.
Well, I've been looking around, I CANNOT find a product more comfortable in the store except for $170+ Bose. I have bought and returned 3 other pairs of headphones and after each thought "I wish I had the Behringer HPS3000's again." Each hurt my ears and didn't block sound as well. One of these pairs was actually "noise-cancelling" and cost 2 and half times as much but I got interference with my cell phone, thinking "The Behringer HPS3000's blocked sound just as well with no interference." Also, you don't have to keep up with batteries on the Behringer HPS3000's. Therefore, I have reodorded the product hoping that I notice no rattle or loose wire problem in this new set, but ultimately aware that for $20 headphones that are this comfortable and block noise as well as they do, these headphones are more than acceptable. As I am on a podcast/audiobook kick and not a music kick, I can hardly make a good review of the sound quality (other than the alleged rattle); however, I did listen to a bit of opera (45 minutes?) on them and it came through nice and clear with a sound range a bit wider than I'm used to. Quite a nice experience (no noticeable rattle either.)
I may edit this review after receiving the third pair. My diagnosis at the moment though is, don't expect these to be super high quality headphones and you will likely be quite pleased. If sound quality is way, way more important to you than comfort, these may not work well for you, but I'm not saying they ABSOLUTELY won't, just that they MAY not.

| The headphones are perfect; mainly because of the price it has everything needed to enjoy music: bass, and good volume. |

Behringer High-Performance Studio Headphones HPS3000
I got these studio headphones for a great price, though Amazon had recently increased it.
The Behringer name should be well known to audiophiles. They make great products for reasonable prices if audio is your thing.
The cushion is soft and comfortable, enveloping my entire ear, so there is nothing pressing against it. Though that design makes it look like there is total noise isolation, there isn't. I had them on my portable DVD player at 65% volume, and I can still hear family members conversing within 10-15 feet of me.
The weight is abit on the heavy side, which you will noticed afterawhile. The thick cross bar does a good job of spreading the weight across my head, but I was left wishing there was more "soft" material on the underside.
All in all a very good set headphones. On a last note, this one was made in China, the probable reason why it can be had for such a low price... |

| I own many thousands of dollars of Behringer products and the quality/value is great. But DON'T buy these headphones. The sound is tinny and muffled. Bass response is ok but the sound quality is very poor. Again, 95% of the time I am a HUGE Behringer fan and stand behind their products and company. They are not the best, but they ARE the best for price and value and having a moderately good product. |

| I'm no stranger to the Behringer brand, with a few misses but most Behringer purchases being hits. These are quality headphones for someone on a budget. If your main concern is sound quality, you will not be disappointed. These sound great! The gold plated 1/8" connector with thread-on 1/4" gold plated adapter is putting quality where it counts...in the connectivity. The drivers have crisp, full range sound reproduction. The construction may seem a bit flimsy and light weight but will do fine in a studio setting. However, unless you don't mind replacing these occasionally in lieu of their modest price, I don't think they will handle the abuse of a working DJ/KJ/mixer. |
