The HP LaserJet 1022 is a reliable, and until recently a low cost work horse. I have two, because of their reliability and desire to use a common toner cartridge, I opted to purchase my third HP 1022 for my daughter who is headed for school this fall. The HP 1022 is no longer being made but imagine my surprise when I discovered the printer for $799.99 at Amazon. I purchased my other two HP 1022 printers new for less than $150 each. Despite my attempts to inform Amazon of the mistake, the price remains the same. I opted for Craigslist and found a nearly new one for $30. Bottom line- the printer is great but no worth $799.99 under any circumstances. I am loyal to Amazon and always default to them when the competitors price is about the same, but this level of capitalism is extreme and insulting.

I have had this printer for about 1.5 years now. I take online classes with digital books, so most of them I print out. I don't think I've gone once without this printer messing up the duplexing. On the second side it will just randomly lose a page and completely ruin the order of the rest. I've had to reprint about half of each chapter. I end up needing to print one set of pages at a time to narrow down the one graphic that seems to be messing the batch up. I'm almost done with school, then this thing is getting beat down in a field somewhere.

I bought the HP LaserJet 1022 Printer to replace my aging HP 4M, and I have not been disappointed. It's especially quick at putting out the first sheet, and keeps spitting them out at a good pace. I highly recommend it for all Mac users who are looking for a printer for light duty and to save that expensive color ink jet when black ink will suffice!
"Best printer in its price range"

Recently one of my inkjet printers asked me for $60 in ink, and I decided it was time for it to find a new home. Shopping for a new printer was a bit involved, but my criteria was
* speed * cost per page * power usage * convenience as a network printer
The HP1022 was an excellent choice. I've used a number of different laser printers over the last 30 years, and this one had me saying "wow" for the first week. When I hit print in an application the first page starts printing in about 1 second. The type is crisp and readable, even when I print 4 pages to a side.
I was concerned about peak power draw. My previous laser printer would dim the lights when it started to print, the HP1022 does not.
Another consideration is that the 1022 has PCL firmware built in, so it could be connected to a non-Windows server.
As an aside, when I went looking in local brick-and-mortar stores to see what they had, I was thoroughly disappointed in the sales people. They would tell me anything to try and sell me whatever they had in stock. Be sure and do your own research, and pay no attention to these people.
So far I'm loving this printer. It is very quick and seems great quality. I've always like the HP brand anyway, and this little printer doesn't disappoint. I'm waiting on a new print server and hopefully will have it up and running shortly on a wireless connection. However, in the meantime, printing USB couldn't be any better.
