| We have 3 boys, ages 3, 5, and 7. We were trying to hold out on video games since it will probably be inevitable at some point, but this Leapster is not your typical video game. They are learning a lot and are most definitely using their brains while they're playing. We have a few games, some letter/word ones as well as math. And they all love to play with it- it was very easy for them to just pick up and start playing. Even the 3-yr old. It goes through batteries pretty quickly, but we use an old portable DVD player car adapter cord with it in the car now and the same player's regular power cord if we use it in the house, so batteries are not an issue anymore! Highly recommend this product. |

| We purchased an LMAX for our five year old for Christmas, and she loved it. It worked wonderfully for the first 5 months or so, then the screen just went- you could hear the game going, but the screen was blank. We put in a call to Leapfrog, they told us to send it in. We did, and exactly 1 week later, went outside and tripped over a brand new one in a box on our front step. To top it off, the new one had a screen cover on it, whereas ours hadn't had one. We were so impressed. The warranty was only supposed to be 90 days, we were well past that, and the turn-around time was amazing. The customer service was impeccable. I strongly recommend this product for many reasons (oh, and if you look up leapfrog coupon codes on google, I'd be willing to bet you'll find one that will make it worth your time! ;) ) |

| I bought this L-Max for my 5 year old over a year ago & she has really enjoyed it. Very handy for long trips. We've hooked it up to our tv, but very rarely use that feature. Wish there was a larger variety of games for the L-Max that is tailored for girls. Great for younger children, but would not recommend this for children over the age of 7. My oldest child has a Nintendo and my youngest is starting to play with it more often than her L-Max. |

The leapster lets your child feel like they are playing video games, but you feel good because they are learning. However, it's a pricey toy that gets played with for a short while, and then forgotten.
Leapfrog customer service is awful, and not customer focused, so my review of any of their products is tainted by my experience with the company. If you don't deal with them and your product never breaks, you'll be lucky. : )
My recommendation is spend more time reading and playing with your child, and save $80-100. They will learn how to read, write and add just as fast.

"Getting to know our new Leapster." | 2008-05-06 |

Two weeks ago we received this toy for our two sons aged three and seven, on ebay for US $113, we live in Australia. Our three year old has not become very interested in it. Our seven year old enjoys the games designed for the 4 - 6 year olds, rather than those aimed at his own age group. He does not spend a lot of time playing with it. Our set is red, and comes with a cover. It may be old stock.
The new set of four AA batteries we added in lasted two days, so I have purchased a 9 V powerpack from an electronics store. The powerpack came with a range of adaptors, and the larger size fitted the Leapster. I selected the lower powered option, and this is fine. I paid US$17 for this. I don't know if its possible to get a car adaptor for the Leapster.
I can't review the games so far. The L-MAX games work well on the TV via the long AV cable provided with the set. My initial experience appears to be that the games are educational, but the kids have not spent a lot of time with them. The pen button for TV use is beyond our three year old's capability as you have to touch the screen and click the pen button at the same time. It takes some concentrating at first. We haven't experienced any problems with the games.
We found an old mini-backpack to keep our Leapster safe and this has a small pocket for the games.
The four directional button on the left hand side does not work effectively, as when you select "down" it frequently activates "left" as well. This means your rabbit may move sideways instead of down! |

I bought this Leapster L-Max for my 5 year old son, along with the Dora and Cars games. He absolutely loves it! Firstly, this is the first type of video game console I have ever bought for the kids. I'm not really into X-box or Play Station, etc as I think kids have enough technology these days (plus mine are so young -- I think those sorts of games are better for teenagers).
So as a first game console for my kids, I highly rate this product. I really like it because it is easy for him to use (eg I don't need to assist him constantly with it, helping to play the games as with some video games), they are educational games (rather than shoot 'em up, etc!), it's easily transportable (to play in the car, waiting at the doctor's, etc), it seems very durable, and the best part is with the Leapster L-Max you can hook it up to the TV so other children can watch as a child plays. This has been a great feature, as it allows my younger son (4) and daughter (7) to watch and then have a go.
So over all, I give it 4 and a half stars out of 5!

| My 4-year-old grandson loves his Leapster...and the games available to go with it. His younger 2-year-old brother also loves it...unfortunately the younger one damaged the Leapster and it no longer responds correctly. But, we have purchased a second one because it is such great fun...and will keep it out of the hands of the younger brother until he grows old enough to take take care of it. |

"Clarification!!" | 2008-04-24 |

| I won't get into how wonderful the Leapster L-Max is because that's already been done! I just wanted to clarify that YES you CAN play the original Leapster games on the L-Max in BOTH handheld AND TV mode!! I was confused about this and hence why I never bought it until seeing it 50% off. You can play ALL Leapster games on the L-Max in TV mode. The only difference is, the L-Max games have additional features to make the most of the TV link. The other games play just as normal but are visible on the TV and the handheld at the same time. Hope this clears up any questions! I wondered about this for a long time and could never find a clear answer until we bought one ourselves. |

| My 5 year old grandson has V-Tech at his house and we wanted something different for when he visits his grandparents. So we purchased the l-max leapster. I like the fact that you can use the game discs for both the leapster and the l-max leapster in this handheld game. My grandson plays with it every visit and often includes me in the games with him. My only concern is that the pen (stylus) may eventually mar the screen. But so far we have had no problems. |

"Not Durable" | 2008-04-05 |

| Although I agree with al the reviews who thinks this toy is beyond amazing (its educational, high tech, combines fun with learning etc.) It simply does not hold up to a toddler or clumsy preschooler Unfortunatley I have one of each. As any hardworking mother of the under five set knows sibling rivalry happens. One day the two were fighting over the L-Max and before I could 'leap' to the rescue of this ridiculously overpriced still not very durable toy (lol!) it landed on the hard floor and hasnt worked since. Unfortunately this occurred past the warranty date. So now my 4 year old has a non-functioning L-Max and 4 cartridges and is now beyond disappointed. We were even hoping to pass it on to the younger one. Not gonna happen tho. I tried to turn the incident into a 'treat your toys with care or else look what can happen' but thats a hard pill to swallow. even bought a gently used one on ebay , that one didnt work either but at least I got my $ back. I hope the company will add padding or somehow make the this L-Max hardy and durable! |
