It is a HDD and works as expected.
It is quite a bit more expensive than a hard drive off the shelf, and you cannot just buy one. Microsoft uses a proprietary firmware in the HDD for xbox which locks you into thier product. Otherwise it is a drive just like off the shelf inside the case...

So, I bought this used off this site so I could store more stuff, obviously, and to play my xbox originals on 360, which requires the HDD. I recently bought an elite so I have no need for it anymore. Might use it down the road, idk..

This is a great buy! I got the 20gb hard drive for the 360, cause I wanted something cheap that would work. I talked to other people about getting a bigger hard drive, and that only seemed necessary if I was going to put a lot of music on my hard drive, I mean a lot, a lot of video downloads, like from call of duty, or halo 3, or if I was going to copy over a game to be on the hard drive, instead of inserting the disc in every time I wanted to play halo 3 or something. Downloading any disc to the hard drive seemed really unnecessary and not worth an extra $60+. This hard drive gets the job done; I've downloaded all the call of duty map packs, as well as halo 3 map packs, gta add ons, and burnout add ons. This will get you all the map packs you need, plus any arcade games you want. If you plan on putting your games on your hard drive, or having tons of music then and videos, consider upgrading to the 60gb or higher.Xbox 360 20GB Hard Drive
