After a year of moderate use, heart rate readings became erratic or zero. Polar changed the t31 coded chest transmitter due to a low battery and was covered under warranty. (Did not cover shipping costs.) Another year later and now out or warranty, the same thing happened. A replacement will cost about $50.
The battery in the chest strap seems to only last about a year and is sealed in the case. You cannot replace it. I would avoid any model that doesn't allow the batteries in both the watch and the chest strap to be replaced by the owner.
Very fast shipping, product new and in perfect conditions. Highly recommended for basic needs and if you do not need a GPS along with all the other functions.

I love my heart rate monitor. It took the guess work out of my work out. It also gives lots of other information that I like to know, like calories burned and it keeps a file of all your work-outs and the length of the work out. It is also a watch and has an alarm and some features I'm not even utilizing yet because I'm still learning about it. In any case a useful tool in a work out and it's one of the better ones that has a lock so it doesn't pick up another person's heart rate.
The Polar F6 is great for the heartrate function, I also noticed when I went to the gym that many of the cardio machines are Polar ready so I'm really happy I went with this brand. My only complaint is that the sync function to the computer works only about 10% of the time using my built in mic for my laptop. Overall, lots of functions and I have used it for swimming, biking and running and with all sports it has done well.
I've never had any problems with my F6, it's my constant companion when working out and it's easy to set up, read and monitor. I couldnt possibly ask for anything better. I love that I can do my land workout, then jump in the pool with it on and it continues to monitor my progress in calorie burning.
If this one ever conks out, I'll be the first to buy another. I've had it for three years and never had a problem- i might add that I can be a bit rough of stuff, so it's sturdyness is definitely an added plus!
