| Great piece of equipment and not too fragile--it has taken some abuse from gaming parties and lots of moving around and still like new.br /br /Only complaint I have is that the plastic caps for the fiber optic connections should be attached to the neck of the cable so you don't have to carry them around separate. |

I read many reviews and did my research before purchasing this product. Not until I received the package and opened it, I saw a tiny disclaimer smaller than newspaper print on the side of the packaging.
**YOU MUST HAVE THE MONSTER BRAND COMPONENT CABLES FOR THIS OPTICAL DIGITAL CABLE TO WORK**
**THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT WORK WITH YOUR MICROSOFT COMPONENT CABLES**
Now why didn't monster package both the optic digital cable and the monster component cable in one package???!!! Digital sound for around $20.00? I knew it was too good to be true! Two thumbs down! |

| Monster has a rep for making very expensive cables, but there's usually no contest in quality when compared to the competition. I play my xbox 360 through my computer monitor, and my sound comes through my PC's 5.1 surround sound system. Using the optical cable lets my speakers do their thing and bring me great surround sound to all of my games. I originally bought a non-toslink optic cable that didn't fit correctly into my 360's vga adapter. After tweaking with it (All hail scotch tape!) I got some pretty good sound through it for Guitar Hero 2. When I replaced that one with the monster cable, I could actually tell a difference in audio quality. Joe Schmoe probably won't notice it, and instead will use the cable as a chain for his dog or something. Though if you're an audio nut like I am, you can usually tell pretty easily the quality difference in highs and lows, sharpness to notes and sounds. A must-have cable, albeit a tad pricey. Don't let the 1 star "fun rating" confuse you. The only "fun" just the cable itself would deliver is if you used it as a whip and reenacted scenes from Indiana Jones movies. |

| After I received this product I was a little surprised to see how this cable was packaged. The way that the cable is placed in its packaging caused a kink in the cable. This is a little bit of a concern for a fiber optic cable since light needs to travel on a straight path and any kinks in the cable can affect sound quality. Monster Cable should know this better than most and Im surprised their quality control hasnt caught or corrected the packaging faux paus (sp?). I was eventually able to straighten the cable after repeated attempts of bending the cable in the opposite direction. But this is not a good idea either as it may cause further problems for some people if theyre not careful enough. Anyway, after I straightened it out and plugged it in, it seemed to work fine. Overall, the quality of the cable is good, it was just irritating to see a kink in a fiber optic cable after unpackaging it. |

| This is a required purchase if you bought the Monster Cable VGA cable or component cable for the 360 and you want digital audio. They have a custom jack on the side of their component or VGA cable that requires an adapter unlike the Microsoft ones that have a standard Toslink jack. Buying their optical cable is only way to buy the adapter. Fortunately the prices are reasonable and for the price of a standard cable you get the adapter jack for free. Basically its a way for them to make more money off of you because there really is not a necessity for this. Its rumored that the older adapter that comes with Toslink cable for the original Xbox also works with this jack. |

It's a monster cable for 20 bucks so I guess you would expect it work flawlessly; it does. Maybe the product has changed since it last got reviewed by the May 2006 reviewer, but mine came with the Toslink adapter. Not sure what to do with it though, didn't need it. The monster cable plugged right into the stock XBOX 360 adapter. The Toslink adapter that is included is probably required if you bought the other Monster XBOX 360 Component cable set. Not sure. Anyway, if you want to plug a digital cable into the stock xbox 360 adapter and into a music system, this'll probably do the trick. The price is great too. A regular 4' fibre optic cable is retailing for $30. |

I bought the Monster component cable to replace the stock cable that came with the 360. The stock cable has a toslink out on the cable. The Monster brand has a proprietary connection instead of a toslink(1/8th mini jack). So if you want digital audio(and you do if you sprung for the Monster component cable), you are REQUIRED you to buy their optical cable in order to get the mini jack to toslink convertor.
Needless to say, that is low, and yet typical of the overrated/overpriced Monster brand. Since these are the only high end A/V cables for the 360, and do make a difference, it's worth it, but beware of this. |

| As the description says, a fiber optic cable is the only way to get the surround sound out of your 360. This is true not only for the games, but also for DVD playback. With this cable, my 360 has not only replaced my original XBox, but my DVD player as well. If you have a receiver that has a DTS decoder in it, you can play your DTS movies through the 360. I tested "The 5th Element" on the DTS track, and it sounded crystal clear, as did "Call of Duty 2." The cable is THX certified which ensures the best quality sound you can get on the market. If you want to use the speakers on your TV, fine. If you want the full 360 experience, get this cable and hook it up to your surround sound. You will not be sorry. |
