Excellent printer for everything but envelopes. Mangles envelopes no matter what(see 1 and 2 star reviews). So, if you need to do envelopes, buy a different printer. Everything else including labels, duplexing, etc have worked perfectly. I have had one paper jam in 4400 copies. First copy comes in a few seconds. To be fair, since I seldom do envelopes, I have not tried Brother service to fix the envelope problem.

Software is pretty good and tech support about as good as any these days. For tech support if you get an idiot or someone you can't understand, just hang up and start over. Put the phone on speaker and do something else while you wait on hold. Owner's manual(CD only) is ok.

In summary, 5 stars for paper, 1 star for envelopes.

Had this printer for under a month - it creases paper and now the drum unit creates spots on the printed paper. have used the recommended paper. Should have bought the HP printer but instead bought the cheaper of the two. Now I am sitting with a useless printer. NOT recommended!

Our old HL-5240 worked great for three years and then died suddenly and completely. Plenty of newer more capable printers & printer combo's out there but adding up the sunk cost of three brand new HL-5240 cartridges waiting in our cabinet to be used makes the decision easy. Plus the HL-5240 price point dropped to $169 from the $260 range. All we do is print black & white real estate documents so this unit works for us.

I installed this printer last night on an Apple laptop. Installation took about 30 minutes, but the directions were very clear. I have already printed over 300 pages with this printer, including some images. It prints perfectly, and it prints really fast. So far, so good.

Fast and quiet. The only negative for this laser printer is that after multiple sheets the paper begins to curl, indicating heat. When the papers begin to curl they do not stay on stacker.

This is a great printer, best I've ever had. But I have to agree that envelopes are the exception. Good job to arkman in his review on figuring out how to do it, I'll try that next time but fortunately I don't do envelopes often.

I'm convinced that inkjets are a scam. The inkjets I've had can hardly print one stack of paper (500) without running out, and the cartridges were ~$35. And the quality is much better with a laser, can print resumes at home. I rarely need color anyway.

After almost 3 years with the HL5240 the toner light finally came on (we are at maybe 1/2 of the advertised 3500 sheets on a regular cartridge, but some were photos), and printing still looks fine. - so much cheaper over it's life cycle than an inkjet.
