For years I had seen Drill Doctors advertised. FINALLY I decided to order one. I am a mechanically minded person and most mechanical items come easy for me to grasp. This is not one of them. I just cannot get it to repeatedly make a sharp bit! I will give the company INCREDIBLE reviews for their courtesy and "we will no let you fail" attitude. However, this fine policy does not overshadow the fact that this beast is HARD TO USE. My wife suggested that I sell it at a yard sale for $20. and just go out and buy more new drill bits! Perhaps it is just some quirk that I cannot grasp, but this is my honest appraisal of the Drill Doctor. In spite of the most gracious and helpful technicians at the company I wish I had never purchased this tool. I truly wish it were easier to get repeatability but even the phone techs say that the learning curve can take "quite a while". How you hold the tool....How much pressure you exert, the direction of the pressure.....how tired your hand might be...ALL have a dramatic effect on how successful you are with any bit. Automatic does NOT describe how this tool functions.

Well while you can buy a lot of bits for over a hundred dollars this can't be beat for convenience. The machine is wonderful. It's accurate and speedy to use but the motor is annoyingly loud and takes getting used to. Now I should never have a dull bit in my collection of sets. I just spent 45 minutes sharpening about 60 bits that were 1/8 to 3/4 inch. That's pretty quick and they work great. I agree that the depth adjuster does vibrate out of setting and I plan on putting something on the threads to gook it up so it won't move. Other than that I expect the machine to be trouble free for many,many years of home shop use. I figure it will pay for itself in a couple years and make my life easier and less frustrating. Should have bought it years ago.

After reading the directions I had sharpened all of my bits in about 20 minutes. It seems very rugged and well built. I am looking forward to always having sharp bits and I am happy with the purchase.

I have always been of the "old school" when it came to sharpening drill bits,doing them by "eye" on a gringing wheel.I had better than average luck on doing this and said "I can make one more agressive than "stock" by doing them this way.I saw an advertisement for the Drill Doctor and decided to take a chance on them.Now I wouldn't be without one.You can do the standard angles as well as most any "custom",and make it more or less agressive as the material changes.You can also do the "split points" and keep them even ,making them almost non walking when drilling without first center punching the hole.I only wish they had had these out when I first started using drill bits over 50 years ago.

This Drill Doctor does everything the adds say it will do. The video that came with the Drill Doctor is worth its weight in gold. Not only does it show you the different parts of the drill it shows you exactly how to use it. Amazon.com had the best price I found and was shipped in a very timely manner.
