My dentist recommended I try the Sonicare toothbrush and like some other reviewers I was skeptical, but now that I am using it I never will go back to the old-fashioned manual toothbrush. My teeth are so much whiter/cleaner looking and feeling; stains from tea are easily removed;and it is great for my gums since I have a tendency for periodontal disease--maybe this will prevent another root scraping with the periodontist! I purchased the E5300 for several other family members as gifts. Great suggestion by my dentist and great product, highly recommend it.

It's strange at first to have a motorized toothbrush buzzing in your mouth, the hard plastic vibrating against your teeth if you hold it at the wrong angle. It has taken a little getting used to, but I do think it cleans my teeth much better than I do with a regular toothbrush. My teeth definitely feel smoother, and my mouth overall just feels, well, CLEAN! It tickled the gums inside the roof of my mouth at first, but it's not as bad now. Guess the gums are toughning up! My model is just the basic one, and I'm happy with it. It has no bells and whistles except for the 2-minute automatic timer that shuts the device off after that time period. I can't imagine needing anything else fancy. Oh -- it did come with a molded plastic travel container to keep the device contained during travel, and I must say that I've used it and like it. One warning: If you have to open your mouth or want to remove the Sonicare out of your mouth, be sure to turn it off first. I discovered just how far toothpaste can splatter! : )

I've been using an e type Sonicare for three years, with excellent results. About a month ago I found that I could no longer charge it, so I ordered this one. But after it arrived, before actually, I found that somehow a dime had slipped into the old charger base. The magnetic properties, (dimes are now nickle/copper vice silver) had shunted the charger field. Since my Brother's birthday is comming up soon, I will give him this one. He's one of those hard to buy for types. Moral, don't be careless with your cash.

I've had a Sonicare Intelliclean for 5 to 6 years and have been quite satisfied, although I didn't use the Crest toothpaste dispenser feature because it was expensive. The brush has held up well and the reason I purchased the Essence was due to the discontinuance of Intellicean replacement brush heads. My dentist originally recommended Sonicare and it has paid off by much improved dental hygene.
