"Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (for Mac) Review" | 2009-09-26 |

| So, for obvious reasons, I got a Mac because Microsoft just didn't impress me anymore with their products. Anyway, this review isn't meant to bash Microsoft. I was kinda bummed when RCT3 for Mac was like 50 bucks on the Apple Store... which is ridiculously overpriced.. (that's my only downfall w/ Apple Inc - too expensive). However, I browsed around on google to see if I could find this game at a lower price... and it so happens that I did! Amazon.com had Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for only $39.99 which is $10.00 cheaper than what the Apple Store wanted, which was $49.99. The game was literally brand new... it wasn't used or anything. The packaging was pristine, and the disk was scratch free. (I will admit that I was skeptical at first, so I looked at every single nook and cranny of my product when I received the package at home). I am extremely impressed with Amazon's product quality, their customer service, and shipping and handling. The game runs AMAZING on my Mac (I have a 13-inch MacBook Aluminum w/ 2.5 GB RAM) and it totally kicks my PC's ass downstairs. I can have a full theme park with like 10 rollercoasters and the game runs amazing and almost flawlessly. However, I also have RCT3 for my PC downstairs and, because of its low RAM and just plain old age (it's a Windows XP), it basically freezes if you have more than 6 rollercoasters running at the same time which is wicked annoying. So yeah, thank you so much Amazon.. and for all of you people out there that love RCT3 and want one for your Mac... this is the best deal ever - I promise! Have fun! Love live Macs and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3! :) |

"Thought it would be more like zoo tycoon" | 2009-06-19 |

My two sons, ages 6 and 9 love Zoo Tycoon. They just build and terraform zoos and then watch the animals - the game play isn't that interesting to them but they loved it anyway. So we bought Roller Coaster Tycoon thinking it would be similar. It's really not.
It's quite hard to build a theme park, and a roller coaster. You have to put a lot of work into it and the work just drains the fun right out of it. The boys played for about 2 hours and then pronounced it boring and haven't played since. Maybe they're too young, but I tried it too and really didn't see the thrill. |

I love Roller Coaster Tycoon, and this game has given me hours of fun. I love that you can make people you know wander through your parks, and the themes for the rides/shops that come with the game are fantastic. Animatronics! How can you not love the animatronics? You can really create a beautiful park with this game.
That said, I am constantly frustrated by the technical limitations of this game. I have a MacBook, and although I didn't experience game crashes until I started making really big parks in Sandbox Mode, the game lags quite a bit if I play for more than 45 minutes. It recently acquired some new glitch that doesn't let me zoom out or pan the camera at all so I'm stuck staring at the same roller coaster and I can't do anything in my park.
I was also sad to discover that, due to some glitch in the program, you can't really sync the game with your iTunes. In fact, once you check the "sync with iTunes" button, the game can't restart and you have to uninstall/reinstall the program. I've heard that making a playlist called "RCT3" with your music and leaving the iTunes window open while you play (every time you play) gets around the glitch, but leaving windows open when you enter the game makes the game lag.
This game has the potential to be so awesome...what a shame it just doesn't play well with Mac :(
Don't get me wrong. I still love to play. That half hour to an hour of unlaggy gameplay is fantastic...it's just aggravating after that.
Also, this is apparently the end of the Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise, apparently, so this is good to buy if you want the best in the RCT series you'll ever get. |

"This game, over 3-1/2 years old, still rocks!" | 2009-03-29 |

| I originally bought this game for my G5 in 2005. I was always impressed with how you can ride anything you create, in addition to dozens of pre-built rides. I just installed it on my new Intel iMac after not running the game for some time, and am still amazed at how cool it is. You can play it in "sandbox" mode if you're short on time and just want to have some fun, or career mode if you want to get totally into it. I'm a casual gamer and like to keep a few of these classics around on my hard drive. I'm glad they still run. |

| It's great to build and ride your own roller coaster as you learn how to take care of safety. physics and to keep a good balance of costs and profitability. |

"TOO SLOW!" | 2009-02-08 |

I bought this game for my iMac I got in August 2008. I originally had the PC version w/ both expansion packs. I only have the normal game for the Mac. The game is fun and you can build rides and stuff. There are a few things only available in expansion packs such as building underground that are a serious omission in my opinion.
The biggest problem is the interface is SSSSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWW. It can take 30 seconds just to do something simple. It takes that long just to open the details of a ride to change the name, entrance/exit, etc. It takes too long to realize what it's doing and can be frustrating. In some ways, it's actually slower than the PC version. Also, due to that, the game is NOT worth $50 in my opinion.
If you are a fan of RCT3, like me, and have a mac, you should get it if you are willing to spend the money and put up with a slow interface. I hope when RCT4 comes out the interface won't be so slow. |
