There are a few items I'd mention about the HM630-U.
Noise: It is loud, especially at its highest setting. Be prepared to turn the speed down as you will not want to keep it on high all the time, especially if you enjoy a quiet room when you sleep.
Automatic: it has the ability for you to set a humidity level and it will kick on and off when it reaches or falls below that level. This is a feature you will learn to do without, because the unit kicks on and off constantly! It will kick off, then kick on a few seconds later, then back off, and back on. It is very annoying in the bedroom.
Quality: so far it has stood up to normal use. I've had it for almost two months and it's been working fine. I'm worried that the plastic handle being held by only two screws won't last long, but so far so good.
Refilling: a little bigger tank might have been good, because you have to refill often during days that you are running your heat. I know it makes sense to fill often when the heat is on, but I'm talking three times a day. There is a tradeoff though...smaller container = less weight to carry from sink to unit. The refill time may or may not be a concern for you.
Filter reading: the filter change gauge doesn't seem very accurate. The manual says you have to run the unit for a specified time before it will give an accurate reading, but my reading stayed near the "change filter" reading almost all the time from initial use to days later.
On the positive side, it works pretty well. It does keep the humidity level up and hasn't caused any major problems (like leaking, as reviewers have mentioned on other humidifier models). |

Not great for medium sized rooms. We had a medium sized bedroom and the thing never seemed to work well. If you like white noise, which I do, then you'll like the noise level. Eventually the humidifier stopped working. We threw it out recently after owning it for less than 2 years. |

I own a number of humidifiers, so I have a little perspective on this one. The tank is easier to handle than many other models and it does a good job of humidifying the air. Also, it is relatively quiet (especially on the low setting), but it does have a number of drawbacks.
First, the filter requires a lot of maintenance, especially for a model that claims to have a permanent filter. That is just not true. Depending on your water quality and how well you stick to the maintenance schedule, you will need a new filter at least every 6 months.
My bigger complaint has to do with the auto feature. The big draw of this model is that you are supposed to be able to set the humidity level to a certain point and the humidifier will run as necessary to keep it there. But what ends up happening is that it simply cycles on and off (sometimes for just a second or two) in order to keep the humidity level constant. I thought maybe just my unit was defective until I saw other people had identified the same problem. The only conclusion is that this is a design flaw. And don't think you can leave it on all the time. You will probably just end up overhumidifying your air and having to refill the tank constantly.
Bought mine at Costco for a pretty good price, but given the problems |

Love the unit itself, however after 3 days of running it only 8 hours a night, I noticed the filter guage was saying "Replace Filter"
So I called the company to say, "hey .. it's only been 3 days. I think the filter guage is broken" and they had me check the filter (it was yellow and crusty) and they said, "no .. it's your water. you need to replace your filter or use distilled water." Then she laughed and said they had customers that replace their filters several times a week because of their water
So of course I'm not going to replace my filter every 3 days and I'm not going to use a couple gallons of distilled water every night before I go to bed in this thing ...
so if you have hard water .. this may not be the unit for you. Buyer Beware. |

| I have purchased my fair share of humidifiers and this is, by far, the best yet! Other reviewers have mentioned the filter indicator is always on, but if you read the directions...it states the humidifier has to be running for an hour before it can give you an accurate reading. I also have a table humidifier from the same company...the best! Let's face it, humidifiers are not perfect, but they keep me from getting sinus infections throughout the winter....I highly reccommend this item!!! |
