"Cute but not for little kids" | 2009-09-26 |

| For very small toddlers or older children this may be a cute book. I thought it was cute and funny when my son was one but now I really dislike it for older toddlers/preschoolers. It demonstrates behavior & language that are not appropriate--specifically blackmail and making "demands" and these behaviors are rewarded. Also for those with agriculturally inclined youngsters the idea of cows and hens withholding milk and eggs is really confusing. I have not enjoyed explaining (repeatedly) what an "ultimatum" "neutral party" and "strike" are to my 3 year old. Maybe I'll tuck it away for when he is older. |

"Hysterical, Orwell is spinning for sure!" | 2009-09-22 |

There are relatively few childrens books that are a joy after the twentieth reading, and the third reading in a given evening.
This is one of them.
The artwork is original and inspired and the storyline is hysterical. I'd describe it as a light and funny take on Orwell's "Animal Farm" - almost a tribute more than a direct satire.
I don't give many children's books 5 stars, but this deserves six!!!
One thing - I really wish the various sequels were as good as the original, unfortunately they aren't. Bummer.
Other five star books include "Princess and the Pizza," "The Napping House," "Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie" and "Pinkilicious"

| I never heard about this book until I took a speech class in college and a girl used it for one of her speeches. It is such a cute book. Very clever and interesting. There are a few words (like ultimatum) that I don't think children will recognize, but otherwise it is a very kid-friendly book. |

| I saw this book at my son's home and thought it was delightful. The ideas are unusual and presented well. I think an adult might appreciate it even more than a child. There are some subtleties to it that make it fun for all ages. |

"Udderly charming (and educational, too)" | 2009-07-04 |
| - Reviewed By User: A14LWFAX6P2CYA |
| This cleverly written and beautifully illustrated book teaches the fundamental principles of the labor process -- the cows, unhappy about their unpleasant working conditions, make a request; the request is denied; the cows go on strike with the support of other barnyard animals; the cows send in a negotiator; labor and management find a reasonable outcome. Too many people forget that labor and industry are a partnership -- without business, there can be no jobs; without labor, there can be no wealth. This charming book reminds us, in a fun and whimsical way, of that basic precept. |
