"Excellent, possibly new instructions?" | 2008-08-29 |

I admit it, my biggest reason for having concern about buying this stand, was the concern of putting it together. Not that I have trouble in general, putting thing together, but because I had a lot of reviews, not just here, but on a few sports store websites as well, that said the instructions are horrible and that this stand is very hard to put together.
I'm not for sure if they are now putting new instructions in with this stand, or if people just don't pay attention when putting something together. For anyone concerned about the stand's assembly, here is what came in the package.
3 different sized bolts, 1 size of flathead bolts/screws, each with the nut attached and 4 stacks of washers that work with any of the bolts.
That is it. What I did, I opened the blister pack of hardware and put each type of bolt together. That took about 1 minute, seeing that you can lay the 3 types of bolts beside each other and tell the difference in the longer ones.
Once I did this, one step uses the biggest bolts, all of them. One step uses the medium sized bolts, all of them and one step uses the smallest bolts, all of them. It is that simple. Even better, the instructions and order of assembly starts with the biggest bolts, then medium, then smallest. There is no way to screw that up since the smaller bolts are not long enough to fit the steps requiring the bigger ones.
The one thing I will note is though the allen key is included, be sure to have a pair of small vice-grips or 7/16 socket/adjustable wrench, to hold the nut in place while tightening the bolt.
The only part I found to be the least bit hard was putting the towel stand in. As we start working against gravity and not having enough hands, on this part. I had no idea there is a towel stand, it is the last step, and requires holding a curved bar under the dumbbell holders, while inserting 4 flat head bolts. Still, after a few times of dropping the bolts, you will get it right.
The stand isn't exactly like that one pictured. The one pictured has more of satin silver color to it, but this one has more of a matte gray color, darker colored. Not a big deal, as it really works nicely for what it is supposed to do.
Total time of assembly 45 minutes, included removing everything from box. Just follow those directions and you won't have a bit of problems. One last note, it does include straps to hold the dumbbells down, so if you buy the dumbbells too, don't worry about cutting the shipping restraints, that look just like the straps in the pictures I've seen with the dumbbells on the stand.
Great product so far. |

Once you get this stand together, it's great--looks good and is the perfect height for the 552 SelectTechs.
But boy, is it a pain to put together! The included allen wrench and hex wrenches are very cheap and make it difficult to put any serious torque on the screws. And yes, some of the holes were drilled just a little bit off-center, so it takes some muscle to tighten them. I busted my knuckles a few times, but got a great workout before I had a chance to use the dumbbells. |

I bought the stand with my SelectTech 552 dumbbells and am glad I did. It keeps the dumbbells off the floor, is much neater and keeps me from tripping over them if they were on the floor. It is also much easier than having to lift from the floor.
The construction is rock solid and of very good design. If you have the SelectTech dumbbells, I'd highly recommend the stand. |

| It works great with the Bowflex dumbbells. Despite the store front in which it was purchased, the over all product is great. It holds up well and it is just right in hight. I used to pick my dumbbells off the floor and then work out. What a stress it was on my back, but now they are the right hight and I only have to grab them and then work out and it feels great. Sorry, I am not a writer so my run-on sentences are not a great joy to read, but the product is great and the stand is a space saver... Is it worth the cost? The age old question. Look for deals like I did and wait for the right price. |

The product is functional and does what it says however the right side parts and left side parts came mismarked L and R or is it R and L. One stand is about 2 inches lower than the other so I took the whole thing apart and swapped pieces from one side to the next and then the other side was short. After laying the large silver frames side by side its obviouse its not the assembly and that the parts are assymetrical. This also prevents the towel rack between the two platforms from being attached. Since it pretty much does what it is supposed to, does not cause me any issue with lifting the dumbbells off and IF it was not such a pain to disassemble and rebox I would have sent it back to get a new one.
Dumbbell adjustment mechanism sticks a little but I suspect this will losen up over time or with a little squirt of oil. |

| The SelectTech 552 stand is a sharp looking piece of equipment and was easy to set up. Don't let some reviews scare you... if you can pick up a tool and look at a picture, you can put this together. A little pricey, however, considering what they charge for their dumbells. This stand should be included. |

First the stand is necessary addition to the Selectech weights. It is attractive and useful. The direction are poorly written but the pictures will guide you properly.
The bolts are very difficult to screw in using the tools so have a socket set(sockets must be deep) and good hex wrenches available and you should have no problems. |

Great set. I zip through workouts quickly w/ this set of dumbells. A bit pricey but you get alot for your money. I hope they will last, prior to buying from this site, I checked the set out at a big name sporting goods store w/ the dirty name. The display model was broken from customer use. Not sure if someone mishandled it or it was just from repetitive use but on one setting, one of the plates would not stay attached/engaged w/ the main dumbell.
Great pc of excercise equipment.

| Saves space, makes the weights far easier to access, and looks nice. This ultimately is just a stand with a towel rack *cough bar across the middle cough* But it was well thought out, the angle which it has your weights make picking them up less strenuous on your back and arms. I feel if you're getting the Selecttech's you should make sure you order the stand to go along with them. The wheels are a nice touch as I have mine on a hard floor and being able to roll it around makes getting them out of the way when I'm done working out a snap. |
