| I found that sometimes I need to go over the same area more than once. Other than that, I got a great value and performance so far has been what I expected. |

| I have been dealing with being hairy for 28 years - shaving is futile, I wax, I spent A LOT of money on laser hair removal, but I wish someone had told me about this earlier. I always knew the old epilady - scary coils that moved around in a jagged painful motion - but this works wonderful. There is a slight discomfort (nothing someone who has waxed can't handle) and thats how I know its working. I even did under my arms and it looks so much better than after I shave. The only thing is you may have to go over the same spot several times - but it's mess free, rechargable and you can do it anywhere!!!! i stuck it in my purse and used it in the car (not while driving!) :) |

| I recently purchased the new Epilady Legend to replace my Epilady Discreet. All I can say is: what happened Epilady people? The Legend doesn't have the power my Discreet had. When I used the Discreet on my legs they were hair free for a month at least. Recharging, plugging it in, nothing changes the lower and slower Legend. It feels the same to have your hair pulled out one by one, after a few minutes you don't notice so much. For me the Epilady is the way to go, but I was disappointed in this one. Being so slow it takes longer and time is precious to me. If you don't mind slower, buy one....it's still better than waxing or shaving any day. |

| I bought my first epilady 20 years ago. You had to let your hair grow quite a bit before using it and it had a coil mechanism that was pretty painful as it snatched out hairs. It also resulted in some in-grown hairs. However, the longer it was used, the lighter and less returning hair there was. I purchased my second 10 years ago after my original had been damaged in transit on a flight. It was very similar to the first--Epilady has excellent reliability. I recently purchased the Legend because my old Epilady had electric problems. This new epilator is completely different from the earlier models. It is not the least bit painful. I am not sure that it is as effective as my older models--it seems to take longer to have a really smooth shave. Also, although it is rechargeable, there is nothing in the handout regarding how long to leave it plugged in. It has a red light that goes on when it is plugged in, but I'm not sure if the light goes off when it is completely recharged as I have never left it plugged in for more than a couple of hours. If you want to say good bye to prickly legs, try this product. It is less painful than tweezing and the hair will become softer and downier with each successive use. |

| Compared to another hair pulling device I have used, that employs twisting coils, this epilator doesn't really "cut it". Pretty disappointed, since my old coil device is about 15 years old,and I expected this newer and improved version to be more effective. |

"better than waxing (but slow) and not painful at all" | 2009-07-09 |

I've been a regular waxer for many years. When I had a baby a year ago and we decided to live off one income (mine) and salon waxes were immediately off the table. But I wasn't ready to start shaving again, especially as I have very sensitive skin and get major rashes if I shave my thighs or bikini area.
I started waxing at home instead of going to the salon. I found it messy and I think a bit more painful than the salon. Plus I'm just not that good at it--I never got the same results as at a salon. Half the time I'd rip wax off and see most of the hair left behind. And it makes a sticky mess too.
I telling a friend from work about my hair removal plight and joked about getting the old Epilady from tv commercials. My friend surprised me by saying her sister used an Epilday and loved it. Why not look into it, I thought?
I read all the reviews here and I'm glad I did. The aggregate of what I learned was that the Epilady is less painful than waxing but also kind of a slow process. I did notice when I tried it out that the Epilady is more of a pinchy or needle-like pain as compared to waxing pain which feels more like a burning or slapping sensation. Since you're removing fewer hairs at a time, overall the Epilady is quite a bit less painful than waxing but definitely takes longer.
My main complaint about the Epilady is how long it takes to use it. I expected this after reading other reviews, and they are all correct. It takes 20 minutes to do a decent job and longer if you've let it go for awhile. I think the woman who says she does it every Sunday and takes about 30 minutes to do, probably has the right idea.
If you're looking for an alternative to home waxing, I think the Epilady is a great option. I think it's easier to reach backs of legs with the Epilady than with wax, and it's definitely not as messy as wax. All you get is a little drift of your plucked hairs below the leg.
The biggest drawback to using the Epilady is that it's time consuming, but it's sort of a soothing grooming ritual, so if you make time and space for it, I think you'll enjoy it as I have. I'm also a VERY impatient person, so I'm not sure this would annoy others as much as it annoys me.
Certainly spending $60 once on the Epilady is a bargain compared to salon waxing, or even to $10-$15 a pop for home wax kits. I think this is probably my favorite method of hair removal unless I decide to invest major $$ into laser removal. Imperfect, but the best of the bunch I've tried. |
