"Good for cappuccino but otherwise too expensive" | 2009-10-24 |

We already owned a Keurig coffee maker (which I have reviewed on Amazon), but my wife bought this unit so that we could also make cappuccinos, which our Keurig does not do. For cappuccinos this unit is great. While you can also use it to make regular coffee, if that is going to be your main use, then I would buy a Keurig instead. Here is why.
This unit is slightly less convenient to use than the Keurig and definitely much noisier if that matters to you. More importantly, the T-cups for this unit cost double what Keurig K-cup costs, and the cappuccino T-cups are even more expensive.
Bottom line: If you like cappuccinos, then this machine is worth getting. But if you rarely or never drink cappuccinos, and just want regular coffees, then get a Keurig or else you will be paying double for the same coffee. We use this unit strictly for the cappuccinos, and our Keurig for everything else. |

We LOVE our Tassimo coffee maker, so much so that we almost cried when we woke up one morning to a totally dead machine. Plugged it in and nothing. I had registered my machine so Tassimo had our warranty info on file. The machine was about 10 months old when it died. Great customer service. They sent a return box about a week later, and I packed up our beloved coffee maker and shipped it back. About two weeks later, we got a brand new machine returned to us. Those were some tough two weeks, as we have gotten super spoiled with our one-touch coffee. We love our machine so much, we took it with us on vacation to a beach condo. The second day of our vacation, the Tassimo, all on its own while no one was or had been using it, started spewing steam and making this high-pitched noise...then it stopped and, once again, dead machine. Remember, this is after getting it as a replacement one month earlier for the first machine. We just got out THIRD machine today, free of charge from Tassimo. When we tried it out, it did not initially want to work (just kept flashing lights, even though the water tank was seated fine). It did eventually work, but I am nervous about its prospects.
I have to say I am pleased with the machine when it works and I am pleased with the customer service, but we are just having very bad luck with them. However, my mother-in-law as well as my sister-in-law both have had machines for years that have never given them trouble. |

I've had ths machine for a while now so I figured I'd do a little "review" on it here... so far, we really really like it! I'm not a morning person so I usually skip the coffee in the morning, although I love it. So that means, we end up going to Starbucks (my kids recognize the Starbucks sign like most recognize the golden arches, okay? The LOVE the vanilla milk there). ANYWAY... Starbucks gets expensive... enter the Tassimo...
I saw this on a show with Martha Stewart last Fall, but really didn't think much about it... didn't really consider getting it or anything... but this thing ROCKS! It was a bit of a pain to set up and go through the cleaning procedure, but it makes a single serving of coffee, lattes, cappucino, hot tea, hot chocolate. YUM! The hot chocolate is AMAZING. The lattes are great (but I'm a latte girl). I run the expresso disc through twice before running the latte milk disc so I can add a little vanilla creamer to it - yummm...
Who needs sleep when you have the Tassimo? :-) It is a little on the loud side, but it froths! Oh, and it takes less than a minute to make a cup of whatever your heart desires. Clean up is a snap.
The only complaint I really have about it is the steam overflow. There's a small hole where the steam/water overflows. It's caught in the little platform where your cup sits... BUT... if you are filling a travel mug, you take the platform out, so the water rushes out under your cup. I just stick a towel under my cup to catch it, but it is annoying considering how easy the rest of the machine is to use. |

I've used the TA1400 for a year now, and just recently bought the newer (Bosch) Tassimo due to its smaller footprint.
When I first bought the 1400 I couldn't wait to try the latte. But I found that I did not like the taste of the included milk disk. My solution: Heat 8oz. whole milk in the micro. To this add one pump 0f Starbuck's caramel syrup and a tad of sugar. Use a battery operated milk foamer (you can get one at Target for $10, or at BB&B for $20). Then pop in a Gavelia espresso, put your cup on the tray, and in a few seconds you have a latte every bit as good as Starbuck's with minimal fuss.
I love my Tassimo! I don't think that the t-disks are expensive, can get them everywhere (Target even), and Gavalia Crema is divine! |
