| We ordered and returned 3 Breville Ikon toasters, all of which were defective. They worked for a couple of days and then just quit -- no lights, no toast. After reading the good reports on this toaster, I can't believe our bad luck. Perhaps Amazon got a defective lot. I am very disappointed as it is a beautiful machine but I don't need a kitchen decoration! |

"Could be a great deal better, a little worse." | 2008-07-02 |

I had read positive reviews for this product while looking to replace our previous, now dead, toaster. I did appreciate the step up to electronics yielding more consistent results, however a number of other shortcomings, at least in the unit we purchased, prevents me from rating it highly.
1. There is not enough difference from one setting to the next. On our unit, '3' results in just barely toasted bread, '4' yields charcoal. Where are the settings for a nicely toasted piece of bread suitable for butter and jam?
2. The location of the knob makes 'inadvertent adjustments' predictable and inevitable. The knob sticks out to the side and moves too easily. Detentes at each setting would be a great improvement or at least a less easily adjusted knob. All too often one ends up with no toast or, again, charcoal.
We have learned to live with this toaster, mainly because it costs so much, not because we enjoy it. When this one dies, we will look for a better solution. |

"Excellent toaster" | 2008-04-27 |

| After much searching for a toaster to replace a bad Krups Sensatoast, decided on the Breville. It does everything it says it should - only problem is that the position of the toaster setting can be inadvertently changed when the toaster is being handled & put back in a cabinet after use; other than that this is one great little toaster. |

"Great Bagel Toaster" | 2008-04-17 |

| Our old toaster was 39 years old and just now starting to show age so needless to say it was a good toaster. We read the reviews of the Breville 2 slice and have now used it for over a month. It is a great bagel toaster. We love the defrost mode, the cancel button and the 'half raised' mode to look at the doneness. We are still getting used to the various settings. The fact that it is a cool touch toaster and is very light are other assets of this addition to our kitchen. |

"Toasts poorly" | 2008-04-17 |

| This toaster is very attractive but it toasts unevenly. One side of the bread gets overtoasted, while the other side is undertoasted and the edges aren't toasted at all. I read the literature and tried adjusting the various settings but could not get an even toasting. We checked the coils when the toaster is on, and they all appear to be functioning normally. After one unpleasant week with this toaster, I am returning it. |

"A little browner than expected" | 2008-04-17 |

| I purchase the Breville toaster because of the other great products from this company. The toaster is beautifully made and the power cord is exceptionally strong. My problem is trying to get a medium brown piece of toast. The settings are 1 to 9 so I guessed 5 would be medium. Wrong! 5 set off the smoke alarm and turned a helpless piece of bread into a burnt sacrifice. Both of my cats still refuse to come back into the kitchen and I had to use soft scrub to get the smoke stain off of my white cabinets. I tried 3 and it didn't even look like it was toasted. 4 burns the edges and leaves the center soft. I'm sure that 3-1/2 would be perfect but it isn't offered. My wife laughs at me every time the toaster comes out because she wanted the $ 19 GE toaster that was on sale. I'm sure it would have worked perfectly. |

| Toaster works perfectly and looks great. No complaints. It has a nice bagel feature that toasts the inside of the bagel more than the outside. The slots are nice and wide. The only drawback is that it stays illuminated whenever it is plugged in, so it uses standby power. In order to not waste power and emit unnecessary greenhouse gases, I unplug it whenever I'm not using it. The manufacturer recommends this. |

"Toaster with a brain - damage!!" | 2008-04-02 |

I never thought about a toaster needing to think before! But this one does! It has a dialable doneness selector which allows you to customize your taste-welldone-ness into it's computer and duplicates it over and over at your request.(By dialing 1 thru 9.)It then blinks down a counter till a beep (yes it talks) tells you it's done. Picking the right number is no problem because you call lift up the handle at any time to follow your bread's progress without disturbing the selected cycle. If it's done to your liking and it's still blinking you can hit a lit blue button to end the cycle and select a smaller number in the future. The reason I said "damaged" and still gave it five stars is because one day I went to use it and it was dead. No lights no lit dial nothing!! I called Breville, e-mailed them a copy of my purchase order they e-mailed me a return-for-free shipping label and two weeks later I had a new toaster without the defect.(It's now 3 monthes later) I was replacing the most expensive toaser I could find;Kitchenaid, having been under the misconception that expensive was good, after two years of having to turn the toast half-way-through to get an even browning and deciding enough was enough. Someone will think they're getting a great deal a my next garage sale! |
