| I'm not sure why other people are having such troubles with their slow cooker. Maybe they aren't putting enough in it? Things will get done too fast or cook too hot if you don't have it 2/3 full. I've personally got nothing but positive things to say about this crockpot. Love that it switches to warm automatically. After using an oval cooker I will never go back to a round one again! Fits weird sized roasts and chickens so easily. There's none of that shoving things down just to try and fit it inside like you get with a round pot. |

| Finally, a slow cooker that is big enough to hold all the ingredients for a stew! The cooking is relatively even although cooking chicken requires less time than is recommended in instruction booklet. (Made the chicken very dry as it was overcooked.) Love the automatic warm setting after cooking is completed. I have recommended this product to friends. This is a great appliance for working moms (or anyone not wishing to keep a close watch on the actual cooking of ingredients!) |

"a dissapointment from Rival" | 2008-09-04 |

It works OK for me making things like stock - it the recipe calls for a lot of liquid, it works OK. Dryer foods, thicker sauces definitely do burn. Despite the name it is in no way "programmable" - rather you have a choice of 3 cooking times, no temperature control whatsoever. That limits the usefulness of this pot greatly.
To make matters worse, the handle on the lid crumbled off after about the third use. This prevents me from utilizing it for it's other possible use - warming cider & spiced wine - as you need frying tongs to pry up the cumbersome handle-less lid, a hot, curved piece of glass. That's just not feasible at a party, you can't expect guests to do that.
Very disappointing.
Rival does not really do a decent job of offering replacement parts; I could get a whole new lid but not a replacement handle. For 10$ to buy the lid, and 9$ more to ship it, I'm half way to the price of a whole new crock pot from a different company. There is no way I'm paying $19 for another lid which will almost certainly fail too. What a shameful waste. |

"Way too hot! Must cook everything at 10-hour setting" | 2008-08-21 |

| This crock pot will get the job done, but you have to cook everything on the 10-hour setting because it cooks at way too high a temperature. If a recipe calls for 8-10 hours on low, you'll need to cook at the 10-hour setting for about 5-6 hours. That's how hot it cooks. Don't even try using the hotter settings or your food will burn. |

Have used this crockpot 4-6 times a month. Occasionally it will burn food but not often enough to give up the convenience of use. However, the handle on the lid has crumbled away and I haven't been able to find a replacement part anywhere. With no replacement parts, I will have to discard it; but, this time I will do my homework and see what brands really do carry replacement parts before I buy. |

| This is a good pot to have around, it may cook a tad faster then I would like BUT never burned anything in it. I have done meatloaf, pork loin, spare ribs, chicken just to name a few and never came back to anything burnt. I have recommended it to friends that work so they can come back to a hot meal. Next will be tomato sauce for my pasta, can't wait... |

I bought this behemoth of a crock pot at a garage sale. Wow, thought this was a deal, almost new for $10? Holy cow.
Well, I naively thought the seller was like me who has gadgets galore around the house. Perhaps it was a gift and she didn't need it...
So I test it out. I trusted the thing and filled it up with my meat and veggies and I went to the store...... Darn thing was boiling (so it's over 212 degrees) after I came home (within an hour). What is up with that?
On top of this, I know that meat gets soft if you let it boil for an hour. You cannot possibly cook meat for 4 hours (high setting) without ruining it (dissolving into a mess ...essentially creating pig slop in a pot)
The whole point of having a crock pot is to do some low temp slow cooking (think like BBQ...which is slow cooking) which doesn't boil. Flavors blend and mesh together... vs boiling and cooking it quick with less flavor. Yes, Virginia - there are older recipes out there where they tell you to keep it at 180 degrees or something to the effect of....
Another thing... why can't you program it to whatever hour you want it? Just high 4, 6 or low 8, 10. That's dumb!
Husbands be warned! To not buy for your wife!
All this is good for is a door stop or a planter that I can plug into a wall. Who knows maybe I can make some funky light optic piece. Junk...and not to mention DANGEROUS. This could cause a fire for unsuspecting cooks who turns this on and leaves to go to work....

| I haven't had any problems with burning. The reason I don't LOVE this crock pot is that the programming options are just too limited. You get High for 4 or 6 hours, and low for 8 or 10. What if I want to cook on low for six hours? Or even high for 5? You can't cycle through the settings to turn it to warm, the only way it will go is at the end of the cycle. Still have to pay attention to what time you turned it on, just in case. Also, it doesn't seem like the lid creates a very good seal, and isn't that a must with crock pots? It gets the job done and is probably worth the low price, but I am going to upgrade to the true programmable one. |
