I bought the psp slim thinking that it was the upgrade to my previous psp. DON"T BUY IT, the slim is not smaller than the original. It's a cheap version of it. Like in the days of the walkman- you had the $150 and up walkmen and the $10 sanyo's, the old one is the $150 walkman in the sense that it gives you quality parts(a mechanized door with eject switch for the umd, high quality impact plastic case, a larger battery capacity...) the slim has a cheap $10 stlye manual opening door, cheap shiney plastic, a lower capacity battery, and in comparing the speeds of loading games- the two are the same. Don't believe sony's claims. I'm very disappointed with Sony and their latest acts of capitalism. They should be ashamed for selling such low quality products at high prices, since their name was once synonymous with quality. It's like sony got taken over by taiwan, there is no japanese (superior) quality technology, just price gouging, banking on what the name of the company and what it once stood for. They even cheapen the ps3- they took out the modules that run ps1 and ps2. That's why ps2 sales are still higher than ps3 sales not b/c of the price, there's no quality behind the name Sony anymore. I don't think that I would buy another sony product in this lifetime nor do I recommend it. Bottom line- if you have to buy a psp, don't buy psp 2000. Try to get your hands on the older version even if it is refurbished. There's a later version coming out this month but I doubt it would be any better "downhill" the way their products are rolling. |

"A Fair iPod touch Alternative" | 2008-09-18 |

OK, so I was very happy with my iPod touch, but sticker shock got the best of me. I decided to go for something a little different, and so I jumped on the new PSP-2000.
A little background: I had a launch PSP back when they first came out. I liked it then, but it was very limited by a lack of software and support.
Fast-forward to today: I'm quite happy with the PSP-2000 as a media device. It's lightweight, slim, and doesn't take up much more space than an iPod touch. It has user-replaceable battery packs, and you can upgrade the memory as you see fit. I grabbed an 8GB Memory Stick at a bargain price, and I'm happy with the amount of data I can store on it.
Other bonuses versus an iPod touch:
* Controls for games. * Built-in stereo speakers. * WiFi switch allows you to turn off WiFi when you're not using it. * Bigger screen. * Extended battery available. * Comes with wall charger, but can be charged via USB just like the iPod. * Costs MUCH less than iPOd touch. * Web browser has limited support for Shockwave Flash (iPod doesn't). * Supports more media formats.
All in all, the PSP is a great choice. It's too bad Sony is still marketing it as a gaming console, instead of aiming it at the adult crowd looking for a media device. |

"Excellent overall package" | 2008-09-07 |

Approximately nine months after having received this package as a gift, I can say that it has certainly delivered. In terms of hardware, the silver PSP matches nicely parked next to a silver PS2 and has proven surprisingly solid, shaking off a couple of drops. The screen has also gathered only the most minimal "buff" lines on the screen despite never being covered with protectors or the like.
The PSP is quite capable, such as seamlessly playing shuffled songs in the background while looking through photos. You can even set new wallpaper without interrupting the music. Only outright deleting a file from a memory card will disrupt play. Other neat features include wma play (with a downloaded update), high-quality mp4, a nice little web browser, 4 levels of screen brightness (the highest only when plugged in), and more.
The included game in this pack is itself excellent, Daxter being a top-notch platformer. The included 1GB is certainly enough to satisfy, though I picked up a 4GB card myself. The Family Guy UMD is merely a nice enough little extra.
Games that I've enjoyed most on the machine (besides Daxter) include Silent Hill Origins, R-Type Command, and Castlevania:DxC. |

My husband got this for me, just because. (Thanks honey!) The last hand-held I owned was a Nintendo SP. I've been into playing video games since the Atari. (Too young for Pong.) Anyway, from what I saw in the stores and of the research I've done, this has surpassed my expectations.
The screen is gorgeous to look at and it makes your pictures pop. I'm playing Daxter and I don't want to put it down.
As nice as the other ones looked too, you can't go wrong with this Daxter pack: with the memory card and the Family Guy episodes included.
I can't wait to surf the net, listen to music, and watch videos & movies on this thing.
I recommend this for older children, or make sure you get a good carrying case/etc.
And with Amazon's excellent service, tax free and free shipping...it definitely makes me want to come back shopping again.
