"Works, and is fast... but it's unreliable." | 2008-09-30 |

| I didn't have the problem others seem to have had with this router. I had it up and running (both wired and wirelessly) in only a few minutes using their web controls. And it's fast. My problem is with its wireless reliability. If I do large file copies or downloads over the wireless link, the router will suddenly stop speaking to my laptop. My laptop can *see* the router, but the router won't allow me to connect. Powercycling the router fixes the problem immediately, or I can wait an hour or so and things usually work again just fine. The same thing happens with my wife's laptop. br /br /Another problem I've found is that if you disable SSID broadcasts, your laptop won't find it. For security reasons, I always disable this. Our laptops have never had an issue finding previous Linksys routers we've used when the broadcasts are off, but for some reason this particular router doesn't do well. I've played with the beacon settings and timings to no avail. As with all Linksys products (and almost all tech products in general these days), calling or emailing support gets you nowhere.br /br /Linksys hasn't released an upgrade for my version of the router (1.1) since I bought it. You'd think they'd have a bugfix release, but no. There's no support from them at all. If you're using it for simple general home use (and not planning on any heavy duty data transfers), this router will probably be OK. But if you want a reliable router that doesn't drop the ball when you use it, look elsewhere. |

I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling buying this product because of the different reviews. Here is what I encountered.
Not much came in the box. Just some quick setup documentation.
The wired side was easy, which was expected. I setup the router to work with my friend's cable modem. So no problems here.
I did have problems setting up the wireless. The recommended card (WPC300N) would not see the network. I configured WPA-PSK and AES encryption. I performed multiple reboots, out of nowhere it displayed the signal strenght of the wireless router. I setup a local profile within the Linksys software and everything was fine from that point. Since I didn't have a lot of time I didn't mess with anything else. I will see what my friends have to say sometime this week. They are end users, so let's see how many calls I receive. So far several days have past.
I spent about an hour or so on this.
I hope this review helps! |

I installed this router last month, it was really easy, no flaws, I have a desktop connected with 802.11n, at 130 to 260 Mbps, and a notebook connected with 802.11g at 54 Mbps, inside my apartment the signal quality varies from excellent to good and I never loose the IP settings, the router box was never turned off or reset, it looks perfect to me. I am not giving a 5 stars just because to add any computer to this network I have to run a linksys program at the computer, otherwise it will not connect, it is good for security but is annoying. |

| This is the worst router I have owned ever and I have owned several over the past few years. My linksys G router was much more reliable and actually maintained a much stronger wireless signal than this N model. The worst part is that this router will continually drop the N wireless adapters but the G adapters stay connected. I have purchased a replacement (not linksys) already as this one is simply worthless. This is my first review of any item I have purchased on Amazon and I hate that is has to be negative but this is one useless and frustrating product. This from an engineer with 30 years experience. |

| As with many router they can be hit or miss. I dealt with routers I loved and routers I've hated. For me personally this router worked fine. The only problem I had was connecting the WRE54G (the range extender). I called linksys and the said since it was N and the extender was G that it was incompatible. After hours of trying to figure it out. They work very well together. |

product initially had some drops regarding wireless connection, but on playing around with the frequency settings, reception eventually improved. I later flashed the firmware with DD-WRT and this item is unbelievably rocking. Now it has more functions to play around with and pretty much performing above average. |

You think with all those anntenna this piece of garbage would give off a good signal.....nope. Linksys sucks, D-Link is a better choice, D-Link is also better then the nightmatre than is Belkin. |

I really, really want to love this router. It's got the familiar, easy-to-use interface for setup which makes it fast to setup for almost anyone.
When it works, it gets good distance and it's lightning speed fast. When it works.
It drops the internet signal sometimes a few times per day. I either have to wait for it to come back up or reboot it; this is annoying when I'm in the middle of something.
My frustration is in that Linksys has failed to fix this problem with a patch. It wasn't a cheap router and I feel like I received a sub-standard product. |
