| So far this unit works fairly well but I haven't been able to figure out all of the features yet. It came with a flyer of quick instructions but no real instruction book. I just returned from a short trip 3 hours from home and it tried to take me on a path 45 minutes out of my way. I am sure this is because the settings are for scenic route, back roads only or something else but since there are no real instructions I will have to stumble around with the program until I figure it out. It was advertised to include an interface cable to the computer and a suction mount neither of which was in the box. I have tried to purchase a cable but since I live in a rural community the resources are skimpy. It appears to me that this was a repackaged item that was not checked to verify that everything was in the package. |

"Great.....buy refurbished and save big" | 2009-07-09 |

| Never had a problem with this....gives great directions all the time but you need to keep the maps updated annually. I bought mine refurbished and it works just like a new one, never had any issues. I also bought a SquareTrade warranty for 3 years on it for fairly cheap. Buy it. It's well worth your money |

I bought this a year ago because of all the excellent reviews on Amazon. The unit itself works fine and does a lot of good things but there is one thing it does not do well: plot routes. I don't know what it is about this unit but it seems to take the strangest routes. In the city it will take me through all kinds of small side streets when there is a major street right next to it that goes directly to my destination. And then to make it even more weird it does not always take the same route. I can start from the same location and going to the same destination and this unit will take me on two different routes.
So maybe the newer Garmins are decent but I definitely cannot recommend this one. |

"Great GPS with only one minor weakness" | 2009-06-15 |

| I've owned the Garmin Street Pilot 550 now for 2 years and it is a great GPS. The only weakness I have found, and this is a minor one, is that the clock that computes arrival time does not automatically adjust for varying time zones. I live in the Eastern Time Zone (EST) but travel regularly to the CTZ (CST). As far as I know none of the Garmin GPS's can adjust for the time zone switch automatically. My cell phone shifts time zones automatically, so why can't the Garmin GPS? As I said, this is a minor irritant, but one it seems Garmin could and should easily correct. As far as I know they haven't done so with the newer Garmin models. |

| the product itself is great(i've owned one before).the only drawback is when one orders the item but is delivered a different receiver.i believe in the unit strongly enough however,to,after sendin' it back to memory suppliers,to ask for them to send the correct one back to me;giving them a second opportunity to get it right(ha,or screw it up again).i do believe it was a mistake in the warehouse picking process(those personnel are highly underrated)which frankly i'm surprised doesn't happen more often.it's only been a mo. and a half since the original order went in,so what's another mo. or so,right? go,ms,go!! i am very much lookin' forward to getting it here sooner than later,as it was gifted for a birthday in early april.oh,before i forget;before your cs representative calls to confirm the items,be sure to ask for the one that actually purchased it...the one for whom it was intended intercepted that message instead of me(surprise bd gift was revealed to them and not much of a surprise after that). |

| I like the product but the map update download is rediculously priced. Updates should be free or at least reasonable. $69? no - too much. |
