cobra xrs 9630 far cry to meet its own features
I usually don't write any reviews, its a waste of time anyway. I am going to be brief. I got the product quick, that's fine. i went to birmingham to tested and to atlanta also; i passed three troopers at the other side of the road, the device didn't beep even once. it went off a couple of times, but who knows what it was, i did not see any police car. during highway it was so disappointed, i saw many police cars at the side of the road with all their lights on and no detection at all.
Im telling you it makes me laugh when i went back to the box to read all the features, not even close to meet at least one of those with reliability. I read an article saying that you dont get a good radar for less than a three hundred dollars, i start to believe that. i am impressed how many good articles i have seen in this site promoting this product. i simply don't understand, must be someone that works for this radar. please try it out but be sure that they are going to reimburse you the money before doing it. in the scale from 1 to 10 this product is 2 maybe. i gave 2 stars because people dont trust in 1 star rating. think about getting a speed ticket of $200 for trusting this device, try it out, drive at 55mphs/hr just for testing and you will see the piece of thrash you have. then return it. |

To point out what others have said, this detector works fabulous and the range is fantastic. In that area, I'm extremely happy with it. The compass thing isn't really a big deal for me... I never really programmed it so I won't make any other comments about it.
There was an issue I've had with this detector and it's quite bothersome. BUT this may be partly the fault of my 12v power outlet in my car. I noticed sometimes while driving the detector would "restart" itself. I traced this back to a loose connector for the power outlet. I assumed I fixed since the restarting stopped. About 4-5 months after I bought it I started seeing strange incomplete lettering and blocks on the display. The detector continued to function properly. Now about 8 months later the display shows nothing at all. It is completely non-functional. The detector still works fine though audibly. Did my loose connector end up causing a strange short in the display? I'm not sure. The connector is not a problem anymore but the display no longer shows. It's ok. I can deal with it. :) |

"DOES THE JOB" | 2008-07-06 |

This unit picks up signals with ease. If anything, it picks up too many signals and when programmed for all the radar sources, it constantly beeps. It picks up the POP signal at times, when I can not see a visable source for a POP radar unit. Nevertheless, that is not to say it doesn't work right.
To compare it with the Escort is like comparing apples and grapes, but it seems to do the job, and for the price, it is a good buy.
I would suggest that the owner try the factory settings prior to reprograming for additional radar signals. Some area only have K band and laser. So, you in essence have an over kill in signals.

Have not got pulled over after having it. It did warn me of a roadside police about a mile ahead on high way once and an emergency vehicle approaching the other time. Usually the false alarm is weak signal that I can tell after getting familiar with it. My only question is it tends to get hot, very hot, although it seems not affecting functioning. Do not know whether it is usual.

| This was the first Radar/Lazer detector I have bought. I have been extreamly pleased with this product. It works well on the highway and city. This detector has already saved me a few times, also it helped me alert one of my friends who was traveling in front of me (by about a mile) in enought time that he was also able to slow down in time. Just remeber this is a radar detector, not a police detector. They still can pull you over, even if it doesnt pick them up. |

| I got my xrs-9630 several weeks ago,and put it to the test right away. Setting the compass was no problem. one quick 360 in my cul de sac and it continues to work great. The major test of radar found me on that super racetrack, know as I-75, especailly south fo the city. I ENCOUNTERED ALL the radar traps ,known and some unknown.Of course I stayed within the posted speed limit, most of the time.(try doing the proper speed limit on on most Ga. interstates, may get you killed) The local & county police were pulling people over, but I had the advantage with thexrs-9630. Sure I get occasional false alarms in city/local driving, but I have learned to mentally note them and when new alarms pop up, heed the warning. |

| I got this product after a speeding ticket. I goes off too much in the city , so I only slow when the level go's above 1 . You will be alerted to Laser, but really have no chance to slow in time. Overall it is better for highway use. Too many things use radar these days and its hard to get something that will detect just the fuzz . Its worth every penny though . Go for it . If only they made a breathalizer/radar detector combo. The pigs wouldn't get any of my money . |

| The only downside to this radar detector is to set the compass. You will need a retail store parking lot (empty) to drive in circles (3 times) to set the compass. After that the radar detector is such a beauty. It will detect all the bands specified in the description, I know it for a fact. It will detect a speed radars about a mile and a half away in any direction. In open highway it will go as far as 2 1/2 miles. This product has definitly saved me from several tickets. |

| I highly recommend this unit. For the price you get full 360 detection in all bands. The range is amazing. The best thing about this unit is its detection of KA, KU, bands on the oncoming traffic from staters and county sherrifs. You get one bar of signal and slow down and then it gets stronger for a while before you even see the cop. Absolutely pays for itself in the first week if you have a long commute. also picks up the POP signal from the moto cops and saves you by a good 15 seconds before you even see them. Don't waste your money on the fancier units with advanced displays and voice responses, totally not needed and most sacrifice the laser detection to give you the bells and whistles. This is the maximum functional unit for the money w/o any extra junk that you don't need. 4 out of 5 just because it is a window mount unit, not a under hood unit with extra sensors. Also only had it about a month so the longevity is yet to be tested. Another couple of months and this thing is a 5. |

| Overall I am quite happy with the detector. I like the settable features; specifically the automatic volume adjustment which reduces the volume after 4 seconds (providing you have that feature activated). It's easy to set the settable featues. I also like the compass feature. |
