Two problems solved in one afternoon !
No more searching for clean FM channels as I approach a big city, stations can no longer override the XM reception.
Better reception, I can put the XM antenna on top of roof instead of on hood near the truck's FM antenna.
Installation is easy IF you can get to your FM radio's wiring. Otherwise yes, you may need to pay a pro to do it. For under $5 you can get incredibly detailed model-specific instructions on getting at the radio ... [...].
Toyota pickups use standard antenna jacks so didn't require any extra adapters. |

| I bought this item because my xm sirius radio kept losing reception everytime I approached a city or county and the stronger FM station would overcome my weak sirius reception and I would have to change frequencies, sometimes 3 or more times.After reading other reviews about this item,I decided to try it.I'm happy to say it works like a charm.I'm a truck driver and my xm radio is in my tractor truck.I now can travel over 250 miles and I might have to change FM frequencies maybe twice.Sometimes I can go 150+ miles without even changing frequencies.It even overrides the big city FM frequencies.My reception is now coming in so crystal clear with every station sounding like it's in stereo surround sound with the different vocals and instruments bouncing from speaker to speaker.It was fairly easy to put in also, you just have to get to the car antennae cable in the back of the radio.On my truck I just had to reach my hand up behind the radio and pull out the cable.You might have the same luck with a car.You'll need some zipties to tie all the wires up to keep them from hanging down and looking sloppy, I recommend black zipties.You can get them at any auto store.Once again this item is a must have.Oh yeah,you won't need that ugly FM extender when you use this item. |

| I used this adapter with an XMP3 Pioneer portable XM radio. Installation was easy (you do have to pull the radio out far enough to reach the antenna. If you have a later model car, you may need the antenna adapters. Two required, one in, one out. I purchased my adapters at Best Buy because I forgot to order mine on Amazon (much cheaper). The audio quality is superb. No noise, no static, just great music. |

| This is an improvement over the weak signal that is broadcast out of the sattelite radio to be received by your FM radio. After the easy installation of this device, the signal will not fade in and out anymore but there is a static sound that is very noticeable mainly on talk radio stations. I thought I had a defective part but I replaced it and had the same result. I also had one on my wife's car and it does the same thing. After purchasing this, I decided to upgrade my stereo to a unit that had an auxilary input which solved the problem. |

| If you are installing an XM radio in your car and thinking about utilizing the XM radio's ability to broadcast music to a specific channel on your car stereo - FORGET ABOUT IT!!! Just assume you will NOT be doing it that way, and buy one of these instead. This unit doesn't require any external power hookup, won't require you to string thin fragile wires from the front of your car to the back, is fairly small and easy to install, and sends wonderful, static-free sound to your car stereo. On your XM radio, you will still have to select a specific FM channel for reception of XM music, but you won't get any static even if you select a strong local FM channel. And, if you turn your XM radio off, you will be able listen to the FM channel normally. The FM channel is only blocked out when the XM radio is turned on. Check to see if your car stereo has a non-standard antenna input that will require inexpensive adapters. My car, which has a Blaupunkt radio, required "Volkswagen style" adapters. All these do is change the shape of the plugs that connect to the car radio and antenna. Note that I say "adapters" (plural) because, if you DO have a non-standard antenna input, you will need 2 adapters: 1 to mate the Audivox plug to your non-standard car stereo antenna input, and another to mate the antenna wire that used to plug into your car stereo but now needs to plug into the Audiovox adapter. The Audiovox unit goes between your car stereo and the end of your existing antenna wire. So, you will need a standard-to-nonstandard adapter + a nonstandard-to-standard adapter. |

The XMFM1 adapter works as advertised.
Unless you are adept at removing your radio and possibly some of the associated instrument panels and some of the center console (if applicable), it IS a "professional" installation job. For example, in my car I had to remove my console mounted cup holder, gear shift trim panel, console trim, and finally the radio.
