"Samsung v. Delphi" | 2008-03-14 |

Ok, I purchased this product six months after buying a Delphi SkiFi3. I'd like to compare the two models:
1. Samsung Helix: Easy-to-use buttons, instant bookmarking, beautiful color screen with cute graphics illustrating each XM station.
Delphi SkiFi3: Buttons freeze up and are often unresponsive, monochrome screen which also often freezes.
2. Helix: built-in antennae and included earbuds. I take long walks and get wonderful reception. With the optional headset antennae, I could listen with no problem in the library or the gym.
SkiFi3: you have to use external headset antennae to get any signal at all. No internal antennae. Constant "check antennae" message which encourages you to jam the antennae into the receiver. I took walks with this thing in open fields in which I received spotty or no reception.
3. Helix: Removable battery gives at least 3 hours of Live XM when fully charged. You can get a spare battery for about $20.
SkiFi3: Battery not removeable, lasts for about 40 minutes on Live XM (that's right, forty minutes.) When it dies, you have to plug the unit in and wait for it to recharge to get another forty minutes. You can pay extra for an extended-life battery which will give you seven hours of live XM- I did, and now I'll try to sell it somewhere.
4. Helix: Solidly built, very attractive.
SkiFi3: flimsy junk. I went through two replacements before giving up on this model (check my review of it under SkiFi3.)
In short, these two models should be in listed in the Encylopedia under "you get what you pay for." You will pay considerably more for the Helix than the SkiFi3. But unless you want a unit exclusively for the car, the Helix is the only choice to make (I can see the SkiFi screen being easier to read than the Helix on the dashboard. But don't expect to be able to walk around and listen to it.)
The Helix is THE choice for portability. I'm just sorry I kept giving the SkiFi3 a chance- that unit is a piece of junk, I wish XM would pull Delphi's license to produce it. Delphi gives XM a bad name. Samsung is the way to go, believe me. |

"A Good Product For The Price" | 2007-12-21 |

| I got my Helix for $129.99 with a $50 rebate from XM Radio. The car kit cost me an additional $69. Overall this is a great product as both an in home XM radio reciever and MP3 player. The only problems I have using it at home is the reception occasionally fades. In a car it works great provided that the audio system in your car has an AUX input. The FM modulator feature with the car kit is good sometimes and bad other times. If you drive in an area with a lot of tall buildings or trees the performance with the FM modulator degrades accordily. When this unit is connected to a car audio system with an AUX input the unit really performs will. I've also noticed in newer cars with the antenna built into either the front or rear window increases the performance as well. It's great to play your favorite music at home and on the road. Considering the price I got the unit for and performance I've gotten out of it I give the Samsung Helix high marks. Just remember to put it in the situations, especially with car audio systems where it performs the best. |

| Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1M30CSS5D2QAK NerdBoyTV discovered the Helix XM2go Portable Satellite Radio with MP3 Player last Christmas 2006. We bought two - one for us and one for a gift. Subscriptions run around $19.95/month for the two units. I really wanted it to hear my beloved Casey Kasem's American Top 40 on the 80s channel that I use to listen to every Sunday morning while I worked at the self-serve gas station as a youth! As for the unit itself, it's very easy-to-use and it records songs for future playback EVEN when you miss the first minute or so (it saves all the way back to the beginning of the song)...neat! Biggest negative, the battery drains to empty when you don't use for even one day. |

"Good XM radio" | 2007-10-27 |

I use my XM2go radio mostly in a fixed location with the antenna pointing south for good reception. My main goal is recording old music. I like that the radio can record a song as long as it is playing; it will not pick up the beginning of a song if the song is already playing when accessed.
Converting the captured songs for play on a computer is not an option, however, playing the captured song from the headset jack into a line input jack works, which must be captured. The quality is good. The line volume might need adjusting coming out of the radio, an option is provided for line output level from the menu.

"Great radio, but DISCONTINUED" | 2007-09-07 |

Amazon is a really poor web site to shop for anything but books. Every day I'm reminding how Amazon was originally a bookstore web site that has been retrofit to sell other items such as this discontinued, overpriced radio.
The radio itself is great and holds a signal really well in most places I venture, but don't buy this if you want to listen to it in your car.
Because this radio is discontinued you will not be able to find the car kit for this radio anywhere at any price. You can find the nearly compatible car kit for the Pioneer Inno and use the soft side of a Velcro tape to secure the Samsung Helix into the Pioneer Inno car kit.
Once more, I bitterly recommend you do NOT use Amazon.com for anything but book purchases if you want to make an informed buying decision.

I've had my Helix for about 6 months and am enjoying it thoroughly. I mainly use it to record XM 202 from 6am-Noon, since I'm usually still asleep while my favorite show is on (You can set it to record before you go to bed). One feature I wish the Helix had (a feature that they put in TV DVR's) is "chasing playback", where you could listen to a program from the beginning while it's still recording the rest of the program.
I've also had some issues where a recording session would quit just a few seconds after it started. Fortunately, I was near the radio when that happened and a quick shutdown and restart of the unit cleared that up immediately. (Apparently, the unit needs a reboot after being on for a few days. No big deal.)
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the Helix. |

| It holds the radio horizontally where a weak top clip easily unsnaps and allows the radio to fall to the ground and break. Mine is new...broken...a paperweight. I like it, so I will have to buy another. Good case design for the stockholder...not good for the owner. Be careful. |

"Great way to have Xm Sat Radio on the go!" | 2007-08-15 |

This device (Samsung Helix) is a great way to get Xm radio anywhere. I have been traveling for work throughout the summer, and have been in roughly 10 different states, from the East Coast to the Midwest, all from my home base in California. I have found only a few very rare places where I could not get a usable signal from the unit itself; when you plug in the extended antenna (included), you can get signal anywhere. I drove trucks in various states and just slapped the antenna to the roof and I was good to go. I loved being able to listen to virtually any style of music (my tastes run from rock to classical), with the addition of a number of comedy channels (best when you have a hard day and need something to cheer you up). In the Los Angeles area and virtually any other large city, you can walk around with this unit and get clear signals virtually anywhere. The ability to instantly record something you like or have it tell you when something you like is playing on another channel is very cool. The battery life is good for about five hours, which is not the best, but when you use a car charger it all works out.
Do not buy the Samsung car charger, though. It costs about $75. You can get a small inverter for your car power port that will cost you about $25 and do the same thing!
Also, this Samsung unit is the exact twin of the Pioneer Inno, but costs tons less, for some reason. |

| Don't buy this if you plan on using it for anything else but a home unit. you cannot use it in a car, because the car docking station for the helix has been DISCONTINUED . tell me how that makes sence. and the antenna headphones for using while walking.. forget it . you would think for the fifty dollars they charge they could throw in some foam on the ear buds . but its hard plastic that dig into your ears. i would hate to tru and walk or jog with them on.i contacted three companies about the problems with this radio. (1)amazon (2)xm (3)samsung(helix) the only one company to take the time to answer my e-mail was (1) amazon. thank you for taking the time to listen to your customers amazon. it means a lot. |
