I wanted to surprise my brother for x-mas with RAZR V3 phone. I was happy to buy the phone for a reasonable price from Amazon. But, when I opened the product I noticed some scratch although the external plastic package is still on it. I complained about getting a used product for a new one. I received a credt from the sellers for that.
However, after the product reached my brother who lives outside the US, he told me that the power adapter lid does not stay closed. It fells off regularly and he has to attach it with some plastic. I am sad about that. There is not doubt that the product was a brokena and used one, and was packaged as new. I would have returned it right away, but I did not have enough time to return and buy another one before x-mas. The whole experience was very disappointing for me, although I recieved some credit back after I complained from the sellers. The whole experience was a disappointing one. It is better to pay a higher price and purchase a good product, than to be left disatisfied.
The message, dont necessarily trust what they claim, there are some who give you a lower price but will sell you an inferior product. Lesson learned. |

| I purchased this phone for myself. I successfully registered the phone on my Cingular network (now AT&T). However, the menu items, options, etc. were not in US English which I found to be very irritating. I wish that had been listed in the phone description as I would not have purchased the phone. That alone would not have warranted a 1 star rating. What did warrant the 1 star rating was the sound quality of the phone. It was very difficult to hear any callers on this phone. I finally gave the phone to my nephew and he had the same problem hearing callers. Poor quality phone |

If you want an unlocked phone, this is a great deal. This is my second RAZR--the first was from T-mobile and not unlocked. I need this phone for travelling overseas and US companies make the unlock process too complicated--because then you might not get roped into another 2 year contract.
I see no quality difference after 2 months between this phone and the "T-Mobile approved" phone I used to own. I've never had any of the quality issues mentioned in other reviews with either RAZR phone. The only drawback I've found is that this French manufactured phone still contains a few French words buried in the menu system after setting it to English--not a significant issue. I was able to get the phone compatible with email and T-zones internet after one call to T-mobile.
My wife has the same phone, loves it, and has not had any issues either. She has set her language to Italian and that works fine too. I look forward to testing the compatibility/functionality overseas.
People who want the US warranty can pay double the price in the US or get locked into an extended contract with a US cell phone company. It doesn't seem worth it to me. |

"I'm gonna describe how you can use the existing phone number and avoid a service contract if you have to replace it." | 2007-09-03 |

I'm gonna describe how you can use the existing phone number and avoid a service contract if you have to replace it.
This phone is going to break on you, that is a certainty because Motorola just hasn't gotten their quality control problems in order for this phone. Eventually only some of the buttons will work, or the LCD screen will flash on and off, or the mic will stop working, it is a fact.
These phones are notorious for breaking and failing and we've gone through three of these phones already. Every time we got it replaced we had to pay Cingular $50 and take another TWO YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION OR $200 CANCELLATION.
We discovered you can take the SIM card from your broken phone and plug it into a prepaid version of the RAZR and it works fine. When you buy a prepaid phone, there is no connect fee, just what you pay for it at a Cingular store or WalMart / Target. --Instructions-- 1. Access your existing RAZR and verify the address book is stored on the SIM card (if your existing RAZR is working well enough to do this). 2. Remove the rear cover battery and SIM card from the existing RAZR, try to keep fingerprint contact with the contacts to a minimum.
3. Insert the SIM card into your prepaid RAZR phone and replace the battery. 4. Power on and verify the phone has service, place a test phone call.
Once you've verified the phone works, you've taken your existing account, phone number and contacts and moved it over to a new phone without extending your Cingular service contract. Cingular doesn't distinguish between prepaid and contract service phones except in financial penalties.
If you don't want to spend ~200 for a prepaid RAZR, you can buy any Cingular prepaid phone and use the same trick, even in their $20 prepaid Nokias.
Most fluent cellular users already know this trick, but since cellular is so pervasive the cell phone providers depend on doubt and apprehension to control their less fluent customers and may try to convince you this won't work if you walk into a Cingular store to buy a prepaid, don't listen to them and buy the prepaid, save yourself from the contract extension. |
