Does as it states. Only downsides are that the load up times are a bit high and it doesn't play Divx, but then again... it doesn't state that it offers that feature.
I have owned 2 of these players for about 8 months and have absolutely no complaints besides those above. Beautiful picture quality on my 1080i projection Hitachi 50' TV. |

"Good upconverting" | 2008-04-02 |

| Good upconverting but since you can buy a home theater with a upconverting DVD player in it, no real need for this one (at least as a cheap low end model). |

"Slow...Very Slow" | 2007-11-26 |

I have always been a fan of Sony products, but my faith is waning. I bought this unit to replace a dead Sony which lasted many years. I do not have HDTV (yet) so I can only vouch for the performance of the unit and not on the picture quality.
As the title states, it is SLOW. Slow to open and close, slow to load the DVD content.
In addition, it seems prone to hang up and kid's videos from Netflix (i.e. scratched), so in that regard does not perform better than its predecessor.
I would seriously consider a Samsung or some other the next time around. And pay better attention to the reviews. |

"It's Not HD But Very Close" | 2007-11-06 |

| I bought the Sony DVPNS75H as a gift to my daughter, who'd just purchased a 42" Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV. It hooked up very simply via an HDMI cable purchased separately. The upconverting seemed to work fine. The picture was very sharp, sound excellent. By mid 2008, true HD DVD players will be all over the marketplace at under $100, so I'd hold off buying any DVD player that isn't true HD. An upconverting DVD player such as the Sony DVPNS75H is nice, but why not get the real deal for the same money. |

"Plays Everything!" | 2007-09-20 |

I have had this DVD player for about 5 months and I am nothing but happy. I bought it for the upconverting feature which provides amazing results, but the biggest benefit has been that it "plays everything". I have three other DVD players in the house and often run into difficulties playing recorded media or DVDs purchased used. This Sony hasn't failed to play anything I put into it. I was hesitant to buy any Sony product other than their TVs. I have owned Sony computers, phones, personal CD Players, car stereos, and home stereo components; all were junk or failed prematurely. This unit is giving me renewed hope in Sony.
I also own a Samsung upconverting DVD player. The pictue quality is good, but it is very sensitive to media and querky in the HDMI connection. For the same price, Go Sony. |

"Fantastic!" | 2007-08-22 |

| I purchased a refurbished unit from Sony via Amazon and am very happy with it. I'm amazed at how good standard-definition DVD's can look when upscaled (in my case, to 720p). As I write this, the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray Battle is still up in the air, and the prices for those machines are way too high, but now I really don't care. |

"Great for the Price!" | 2007-08-15 |

We recently purchased the same DVD player at a local discount store. The only difference is that ours came with a cable, something that other reviewers complained was lacking with Amazon's unit. We actually paid $10 more than the Amazon price, so we paid for the cable. We were unable to use it as it was too short to work with our tv cabinet. So my feeling is it's best to buy your cable and pay for exactly what you need.
