"Great Sound & Great Value"

I love this product and have been very pleased with it. The sound is great! I love that the ipod sits "in" the device, so there is not option of knocking it off the dock. The portability is fantastic and works with a cord or batteries. I've used it outside and the sound is still loud and good quality.

The iM9 inMotion speaker is an awesome product. I purchased it to put in my golf cart while playing and was blown away by the sound it produces. It uses 4 C batteries and I'm on the 10 round of golf on the same set of batteries and its still going strong. I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with a power cord as well so I can use it both as a plug in or as a mobile unit. It has a aux connection on the back so if you have a devise that doesn't fit in the pop out window (as my iPhone 3GS doesn't without taking the plastic protective cover off) you can connect it with a mini plug. Added benefit with the iPhone is you can play Pandora radio. All in all for the price I don't know how you can beat it.

I've had other inMotion iPod machines, but I wanted one cheap enough to use on a job site while I painted a barn. This thing worked great, and took a lot of abuse. I've dropped it, gotten paint in the controls, and it still sounds very good.
I've had one of these for about 1-1/2 years now, and have been very satisifed with its performance. I paid about $[...] for it from Amazon, and it's now (8/2009) listing for about $[...] on Amazon from a few 3rd party vendors.
So it would appear that the IM9 may be manufacturer-discontinued, and that a few unsavory vendors are gouging would-be buyers for the last few units they have it stock. If you want one, go directly to the Altec Lansing website, where the IM9 is currently (the week of 8/21/2009) on sale for just $[...]:

A couple of months ago, I accidentally dropped my IM9 (in its backpack) from about 3 feet onto the concrete floor in my garage. It landed front-side down, so the front pouch that holds the power adapter struck the floor first. The impact broke the blades off the plug on the power adapter, rendering it useless, but the unit still played fine (on batteries). There's a slight dent in one of the speaker grilles, where the power adapter impacted the face of the unit, but no effect at all on operation or sound quality.
It took some persistence (several e-mail back and forth, with photo attachments), but Altec Lansing replaced the entire power adapter at no charge, even though the damage was my fault, and my unit was well past expiration of the one-year warranty. At first, they sent me just the plug module (at my request), but the power adapter design had changed since I purchased the unit, so they then sent me an entirely new power adapter and plug assembly. As a result, I now have a spare plug module, in case I break another one!
Going forward, I will certainly be sure to snap the plug module out of the power adapter, before stowing it in the backpack. It would be nice if the plug blades folded into the adapter, as they do on so many chargers / adapters these days -- especially for mobile / portable electronics -- but that's another issue.

Great sound from this small unit. Worked it out in backyard. Everyone was amazed at the sound coming from this unit. I did not give 5 stars because it does not charge my touch iPod but overall a rel nice sounding and sturdy portable speaker.
