Thomas the train is an adorable train. Very cute, my daughter is 21/2 and loves the train. The pros are it is very attractive looks just like the thomas cartoon. Very large and the train makes a nice sound. The cons are that it is a little slow.(i have peg pergo green and red sante fe train and they are faster- i keep all three trains on a very large track and have three kids riding at the same time.)the button to make train go has to be bungied to keep going on thomas becouse it is hard to hold for a very long time. All in all the train is wonderful and keeps my daughter and her friends busy for a very long time. Riding time is about 1 1/2 hours.(continuous)

I have to agree with previous reviewers that this toy has design issues which make it inappropriate for children under 3 yrs or so. It requires hand strength that 18-36 month olds do not have. Also, there is a significant delay between the child's action of pressing the button and the train starting to move. This is confusing to younger children. He solved the problem himself by sitting on top of the train so that his bum constantly pressed the button, making it go. But this makes the train top-heavy and easily tipped over. So instead, we disabled the original "on/off" mechanism and installed a switch (from radio shack). He can very easily flip the switch to turn it on or off. He loves the toy now.

Overall I'd say it's a good buy. First I thought my son would lose interest in it quickly but after two months this is still one of the toys he plays with every day. And the battery is still going (I only did the initial charge!). Also it's a hit every time we have a playdate as well. Yes the push botton is difficult to manuver so you'd either have to get some kind of a clip or teach your child to use his/her palm to push it down which my son got fairly quickly. As some revier mentioned, the train does go off track if your child moves around too much.

I bought this for my son for Christmas, which at the time he was only 14 months old. The age says from 18 months. The problem is he can't hold the button down to make it go so I have to walk around the train and hold the button for him. We had a playgroup over and there were kids that were over 2 years old and they couldn't hold the button down either. Overall my son loves it but its not age appropriate for him.

Also, this toy is cheaper at Toys-R-Us. I got ours when it was on sale for $[...]. After Christmas they had them on sale half off for $[...].

This ride is very disappointing! This was a gift for my son's 3 year birthday. His grandparents bought the train & extra track and we set it up as a surprise for his Thomas party. We made childsize railroad signs, Sir Topham Hatt and had Harold flying over the train track. He had is own Island of Sodor. But none of the children at the party, including my son, could hold down the handle to keep the train moving. A couple of the children got their foot stuck when the train would go around the turns. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY! We returned it after 2 weeks of aggrivation. It should have a peddle like other battery power vehicles, he has no problem driving his truck that he received on his 2nd birthday.

My son just got this toy for his first birthday! I was suprised at how much he likes it. I do have to hold the button for him but since he is so young I wouldn't let him ride it on his own anyway. My 2.5 year old daughter also loves the toy. She is able to hold down the button to make it go. My son's feet also don't reach the foot rests even though he is 33 inches tall. The train is really big, especially with the expansion tracks so we can only take it out once in awhile to play with. I also think that the age on the box should be 2-4.

I bought my son who LOVE Thomas the Train this gift for Christmas... and it's a shame because all he can do is look at it. He gets really frustrated and knocks it off the track when he tries to use it because he can't hold down the handle on his own to make it ride around the track. I have sinced packed it up and put it away. It's not worth the aggravation of him having a temper tantrum every time he tries to play on it. BIG WASTE OF MONEY!!!

My son received this train for Christmas and has been enjoying it ever since. The only issues we have is, he's only 1 1/2 yrs old and it's hard for him to know to hold down the handle to get the train moving. So we solved this problem by tying a ribbon around it and it holds it down so the train moves. Also, the battery is a bit of a pain to charge- you have to actually take it out and charge it- usually in the garage because it's similar to a car battery. We were surprised they would put this type of battery in a child's toy. But other then those 2 things, we are thrilled with this product and he loves to ride on it. I would also suggest you buy the extra set of tracks!
