"The perfect "variable" puzzle toy" | 2009-10-26 |

We bought this as a travel toy when our son was just one and a half so he can play with the magnets supervised and learn a couple basic shapes. There are only a few pieces and is easy to clean up for him. He is two and a half now and is doing both the level 1 and 2 sides by himself. It is one of the favorite toys at home and when we're away. We know that he will only love this toy more as he gets older as additional cards can be purchased (Tangoes Jr. Puzzle Packs [...] and he starts to create his own puzzles.
This set contains the following:
Plastic carrying/storage case with handle, slide-out tray for magnetic pieces, and top that flips up to store cards in the compartment beneath
11 double-sided, laminated puzzle cards and 1 blank card, the puzzles are: Camel, Cat, House, Lamp, Leaping Woman, Man in Cap, Rabbit, Sailboat, Sitting Man, Skipping Man, and Swan
7 plastic pieces with magnets inside that include 2 large triangles, 1 medium triangle, 2 small triangles, 1 parallelogram, and 1 square
The toy is made in China.
Of course, the toy is recommended for 4- to 6-year olds so don't expect every toddler to be interested immediately. Our son has always been interested in spatial reasoning toys early on and any toddler who has shown signs of that (and does not place small pieces in his or her mouth) will probably enjoy the toy. Some of his playmates of the same age do not touch the toy though we believe that they will want to try it later.
Though experts advise that the use of magnets should be supervised around babies and toddlers, we do think this toy is very safe for the recommended age. The case has rounded edges and has durable pieces as they have held up to toddler-use. The puzzle cards are not too thin and are son has been careful not to bend them. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, when our child was younger, he needed help to pull the tray out but not anymore. The pieces are molded around the magnet so are unlikely to ever come out. The smallest pieces, the triangles, are two inches on its longest side and so has manufacturer listing the toy with possible choking hazards.
Great for travel and quiet play, the perfect introduction to Tangoes puzzles
Overall, if your child loves puzzles or if you want him or her to learn to love puzzles, this is highly recommended. We honestly think that every child should try a Tangoes puzzle at least once. |

"my 4 yr old loves this" | 2008-09-19 |

| We saw this in the gift shop of our local science museum and just gave it to 4 yr old daughter as a birthday gift. She's loving it! The two levels are perfect for her age. Level 1 shows how the shapes fit into the bigger picture. Level 2 either tests memory or creativity. Great puzzle. |

| My five year old daughter likes to take this toy with her while riding in the car. It keeps her busy and I know she's exercising those brain muscles at the same time. Great Product! |

My son is almost 3.
He likes this game. MUCH easier and less frustrating than puzzles with interlocking pieces. (Which he can't really do.)
He needs help opening the drawer where the magnets are kept. Then he can do everything himself, but likes to be near someone for a little help.
Sometimes he needs help holding pieces steady while he adds new ones -- he gets confused when he bumps them out of place -- like, how did that happen?
I don't worry about pieces getting lost -- since he can't open the drawer without me, he can't get into them without me knowing, and is in the habit of being made to put the pieces away when he is done.
I think he will like it more and more as he gets older! Good for a kid who likes puzzles, but isn't that good at them, and not that good at keeping up with puzzle pieces. A kid who is in-between real puzzles and little kid puzzles.

"perfect car travel game, kids as young as 3 love it" | 2008-02-21 |

I was skeptical about this gift, thinking it might be too advanced for my three-year old, but she absolutely loves it, and so do all her friends. The simple side shows you the exact shape for each piece (white lines drawn on the picture show you how to assemble the tangram), so it's not too difficult for a young one to figure out where things go, and when you flip it over it's a classic tangram puzzle that you have to figure out yourself (unless you conveniently remember the positioning from the other side... so your child will either be learning spacial manipulation or memorization or both). The pieces are sturdy and the magnets are strong, so they stick to the board even when two or three cards are layered on top. She also loves it when she plays her game and I get out my own tangram set.

"Educational toy my 3 yo enjoys and her friends' Mommies want" | 2008-02-11 |

My daugther really enjoys this toy and at 3 yo the Level 1 she can do on her own, as well as work on some of the Level 2 cards (which are simply a harder version--without outlines--of the same shapes as on Level 1) with a little help.
The toy is easy to carry with the little grey handle at the top, the cards store inside the hard case, and is great for taking to restaurants, grandma's, friends' homes, car play, etc. My little one was also very excited to show it off to her grandparents the other day. The hardest things about this toy is keeping the big people's hands off it so she can "do it herself"!
Highly recommend! |
